Default Diagnosing CTD - could use some help

Well, I've got CTD's all of a sudden. I sure could use some advice how to go about diagnosing.

Last night, I thought it was a recently-installed prog that decided to run an auto-update. I uninstalled the prog, but now I've CTD'd again, so it wasn't that.

I'd post the little Windows error screenie, but I wasn't able to capture it. Is there an error log saved somewhere?

I guess I'll start with testing my RAM. edit/add: BTW what's a good memtest utility. I just tried memtest34a, but says you have to run it from a floppy, which I don't have. Then run virus and malware scans, although I'm pretty sure I'm clean. Beyond that ....

I don't think it would be bad RAM unless you are getting a CTD every time you load. I've been trying to diagnose CTD's for a while now...and frankly I can't (and I know a fair bit about computers). At first I thought it was overload on the GPU or CPU, but lately I've had them in the middle of the Atlantic with nothing around.

Tks Erich.

As I was just OL scrathing my navel about it :hmm: , it occurs of course that my last savegame might be messed up and that's probably first thing to check as the most likely scenario. So I'll see if the game runs without loading it ie loading a single mission.

Well, it works fine in single mission. Even though last night's career session crashed after about 2 hours + (RL), I'm thinking it's more than likely that last savegame that's corrupted, rather than something dark and mysterious in the comp. I guess I'll re-load the last-but-one savegame and see if that works.

That is the tactic I've had to use. Now I just save relatively often, and back off one by one until I get to one that loads.

I should remind myself not to panic (but it's SH3 so I panic ) ... seems fine after reloading the previous savegame.

I don’t want to open a can of worms but when I used to use GWX integrated orders my games crashed for no apparent reason so I no longer use it and I haven’t had a crash since maybe it was just a coincidence I don’t know. :hmm:
