Default Snorkel advice and tips please, folks.

I'm in the current WaW3 campaign, SH3 with NYGM 3.0 and SH3CDR 3.1, and I've got permission to fit a snorkel prior to sailing on Patrol 18.

The problem is, in all the time I've been playing SH3, I've never used it before. Obviously I know what it does, but I'm not familiar with the various pros and cons of using it within the game.

So, whats the general view on where and when to use it ? At night or day ? Do aircraft spot it when they are in the vicinity, and do I need to keep watch on the scope all the time its deployed ?

Does radar ( air and/or seaborne ) detect it easily, or is it pretty much invisible to them ? Is there any radar warning while running at snorkel depth ?

All information will be gratefully received, and anything specific to NYGM 3.0 will be particularly welcome. Thanks guys and girls.

if the weather is very clear and the see is calm a snorkel will be located just as easy as a periscope. I find the snorkel most useful in somewhat lesser good weather with high waves. It's a very useful device but only use it when you need to charge batteries.

It's an airplane magnet (and you can't see them coming!) and it is MUCH more visible to surface ships than a periscope. Use it with caution.
