I am replacing the DVD-player in my PC against a DVD burner. the thing should be capable to dal with these media:
CD, CD-R, CD-RW anyway, no questions. Lioghtscribe means "printing" a label on the disk via laser, and you need special DVDs for that, okay. DVD+RW 20-8-16 DVD-RW 20-6 DVD+R DL 10 DVD-R DL 10 DVDRAM 12 Now, R stands for Read and W stands for Write. RW means a DVD that can be repeatedly burned, like CD-RW. But what does the + and - mean? What media do I need, what is the purpose of these different "standards" (if that is what they are)? And DVDRAM I never heared of. And three numbers (20-8-16): first means speed of reading, second speed of writing, but third number? What'S more, if I want to burn a DVD that I can put into a standard TV-DVD player as if it were a movie disc, what kind of DVD and what data format do I chose? It seems I live a bit behind the times. Also, I just could try, but I also culd ask: it is for IDE, and I am also confused about that Master and Slave. I have one HD installed, plus currently a DVD player and a CD player/burner. Do I need to set the jumper to slave, assuming the HD is the oM;aster and there can only be one Master? Or is the DVD burner also Master, and the CD becomes Slave? Good opportunity to learn these things now - before i build a new system in some far away future - and then put it together all myself for the first time ever. so far I only did partial replacements of components.
