Default Maru Multiplicity

Hey all, Im a lurker here but this is something I've never seen or heard of before in either SH3 or 4. Im in the Sargo entering the Java sea through the Lombok strait when we spot a single merchant. I do the usual, plot its course and speed and set my self up for the shot. I fire two torps, one is a dud, the other hits the port side just forward of the port propeller, bringing it to a stop. It looks like it should sink without further damage from me, so I kick in high TC and wait for a few seconds. I bring it back to 1x to check how far along it is and I notice something strange is happening...

It is replicating itself

It is now two completely independent ships with the exact same damage

Map screen confirms

But will they both sink? And will I get credit for both?

Yes, and yes

Like I said I've never heard of this before, maybe its an old bug but it blew my mind.

No, I've never heard of anyone mentioning anything like that either.

Awwww, it gave birth. Cigars for everyone!

I know you can blow a ship in two, but it's usually not quite like that .

Sometimes, ships spawn together on top of themselves, with the same course and speed, so that may be what happened here. It used to happen in SH3 too, but I think they exploded from collision damage when that happened.

Was just thinking "reminds of bacteria" and then I read that. It nearly killed me.

I've seen a lot of weird things, but this one takes the cake.

Welcome aboard, Dolemite-.

Yes without a doubt this is very, very strange....almost too strange... don't you think???...what is even stranger is the fact that you just happened to be observing this veridical paradox as the very instant it took place, and again just happened to have had the presence of mind to take screen shots to document the entire dramatic sequence.... from beginning to end...:hmm: ....I'm thinking someone from a covertly funded unknown government gaming agency will approch you soon, late at night demanding you surrender some DNA...and don't think that we...er..ah.... I mean they are unaware of the Dolomite-Startrek connection either... ...

We strongly suspect you have perfected a reverse Corbomite coating that instead of creating a reverse reaction of equal strength intended to destroy the attacker....instead duplicates the target being attacked... ..which may end submarine sims forever. Why...In a matter of months all hard drives could be packed solid with these spontaneous generations...

I quite imagine that just the unrealistic aspect of this phenomenon,if it can't be modded out, will cause a half dozen suicides on this board alone...

I see two ships sunk icons. Did you get credit for both?

Yeah, I got credit for both, added up to 10,000+ tons. Nisgeis, thats what I figured, two ships spawned inside each other and my torp dislodged them.

Seminole, I think I'll stay faar away from you.

You are not alone my friend. I too have observed this phenomenon though long ago, while using RSRD in the solomon islands. It was reported and he released a patch soon after. Are you using any mods that change the campaign files? I believe the ship i saw copy itself was a Hog Island Freighter i believe. anyways at least you took pics.
