Free AVI editor?

I'm in need for a simple, non-professional avi.-editor to cut and edit some primitive 640x480 videos. eventually, if possible, having the ability to copy a new sound track over the original one, and having a small selection of possible fading and blending effects, maybe some adjustement of saturation, brightness and colour, would be welcomed. Since it is minor use only, it should be free: no sense in spending money on it, for that my needs are to little. Basically, it should be something to be handled like Windows movie maker, just without that loss of picture quality.

Recommendations?

ViratualDub should be right up your ally, and it is freeware.

If you simply want to edit the video, you may need Nandub instead. Most AVI's these days have VBR audio tracks and you can't work with those in VirtualDub. VirtualDUB only supports CBR audio.

I use both. I compress my AVI's with VirtualDUB, frameserve it with AVISynth, and manipulate audio with NanDUB.
