What an inspiration he was.

I liked to use his method of night surface attack in SHCE

I loved the listing of his medals, followed by even higher praise: "His greatest achievement, he often said, was that no one under his command ever received another well-known medal: the Purple Heart."

Sail on, sailor.

An autographed copy of Thunder Below, given to my wife's grandfather at the '94 subvets convention is one of my most prized possessions.

Admiral Fluckey took Admiral Lockwood's place after the war. Notice that he always gave credit to his crew for his success. He was always most proud of the one medal that neither he nor any of his crew ever received: the purple heart. He was a hero indeed.

I wonder if that scene in Operation Petticoat came from that. "We sunk a TRUCK ! ! !"
