SH3+GWX2.0+GWX2.1 Versus SH4 + TMO+OM

Hi everyone!
I was in Sweden on a vacation for a week.
The first thing I do the next morning was to buy new RAM ( 2GB extra) and
SH4 " Uboat Missions" , it's a lot cheaper than in Norway
So I was really looking forward to try out this new game:p
The week went so sloow , and finally I was home at last , to try this out
I installed the SH4 and the "Uboat Missions " while my heart was pumping.
I fool around in this forum to find some proper mods to use, so I ended up with TMO (Trigger Maru Overhauled) and OM (Operation Monsun) and some other small mods . I installed JSGME and enabled these mods , and was ready to go
Geee , I was disapointed ! The sea was so ugly that it scared me to death
It looks like oil painting ! To tell you the thruth , it was the most bouring game I've had played in my life , I never , never gonna play that game again in my life ,exept if there is gonna be a H..of a Mod coming up in the future . Some small little birds in this forum whispering about a GWX4 that's coming up in the next year Until then I stick with the good ol' SH3 with GWX2.0 & GWX2.1+SH3Cmdr3.1 & JSGME
And now the new JSGME coming up too .

Yabba dabba dooo

I recently picked SH4 + Uboats back up and was playing it and to be honest, I missed SH III so much after that I reinstalled it!

A lot of it probably has to do with the fact that I understand the Uboat war more than the US sub war. And that the Uboat's were getting their orders from COMSUBPAC all the time!?

Okay, you're looking at SH4 out of the box. Have you looked at any of the environmental mods? I guess none of you were around when SH3 was new. Play SH3 with no mods for awhile. You'll see a huge difference. As for graphics comparisons, here are a couple of similar shots from both.

SH3 with GWX 2.1 and IABL's new T2 model:

And SH4 with no mods except WClear's environment:

SH4's graphic engine is a definite improvement, and once the different modders have put their touch on the Atlantic side, it's going to be even better. I love SH3, but I think in another year or two it will be forgotten, as SH4 is the same game with better crew management, better campaign management, better loading times and better graphics.

For now, stick with it, but don't knock the future. It can only get better.

Hmmm Sailor Steve...

I was very very around when SH3 came out. Infact in March that year (2005)
I was on a gig in southern Norway and played in a blues festival and run to the store and bought that game It was ugly without those mods I agree with you there , but if you're reading the bottom of my post ,you'll see that I am waiting for that GWX4 ,until then I stick with SH3
I wish that someone could do something with the sea in SH4:hmm: it is terrible ugly

I have to agree with StarLion, looks sort of like a skin over the water, like a painting, and I ran all the various ROW mods, however the reflections, wakes etc are great!

Nice post Steve, some good things in here. I'll throw in " don't knock the present as well " as far a SH4.

I have had a decent time playing SH4 with some mods.

In your post with the comparison shots, its easy to see how much better the water can look.

but IMHO, a subsim should be about more than the look... it needs substance. if a company is going to release a game which is to revolutionize subsims... it had better revolutionize subsims, not just be a new pretty face.

SH4 just doesnt feel right. its hard to explain.

Playing SH3 is like kissing the prom queen.

Playing SH4 is like kissing your cousin or something!

I have knocked SH4 pretty hard in the past, but i wont do that in this thread, all i will say is ... it just doesnt have the right feel.:hmm: and thats what it boils down to for me.
