Crazy U-Boat tactics
Coming home from the Florida straight, I encountered two tankers, sailing south at 7kt and executed a surface attack from 1500m. Two torpedoes hit the Medium tanker, sinking her imedietely, but the only torpedo fired at Small tanker was a dud
![]() I didn't have the nerve going through the whole process of outflanking and setting up another attack again, so I chased her a minute or two at flank speed, turn to perpendicular course and fired an eel from a point blank range. We were so close I almost rammed the darn thing, and was afraid the torpedo wouldn't even arm itself, but it did. Direct hit midship under the keel, and she sunk. ![]() Now, I know that this is not the classic submarine tactic, but it was fun. ![]() Anyone has some more crazy tactics? ![]() ![]() |

hmmm at this distance i have to dodge its tail so the eals have enough time to arm. I use this tactic in thick fog with visibility around 200m.

Dunno if its only in my game but if i encounter lonely merchants or a pair of them in this weather conditions they are always running like speedy conzales on route 66. No way i can keep up with my poor 7knts submerged. Of cause getting into a standard attack position hydro attack is the way to go.

"not the classic submarine tactic" ?
It was for a lot of the early war! This is my standard tactic against convoys and long ships in 1939-41. (although at ~800m range)

I like to surface right next to a merchant with an escort on the other side. I match the merchant's course and speed, and use him as a human shield.

Haha, I've done the "human shield" thing before. I used it to get a Fiji CL to sink all her escorts.
