Default One of thos DOH! moments...

Learned something tonight. (using RFB)

I was on my third mission of a patrol. Only a few torps left. I was given a 'patrol' mission. No big deal stay on station for a day or two and we head home

While bobbing around in the patrol zone we made contact with a troop transport escorted with three escorts... Must be important.

Long story short we fired our last four torps into the transport. One prematured, one ran deep, the other two found their mark... Lucky... a long shot from almost 3,500 yards out. Down she went. Escorts hung out several hours but never even got close.

The next sunset we surfaced and puttered around a bit. Thats when we saw a good sized convoy.... "Must radio this in" so we did. "Good find ! Will assign assets. RTB at your disgression". Nice I thought we just hang out here a few more hours, complete the 'patrol' mission, and steam home for medals and our due renown.

Problem is we hung out in the patrol area for a day, another day, three days.... no mission complete!

Moral of the story? Dont call in a contact report untill your patrol is satisfied the RTB order supercedes it and you cant complete it.

On the bright side it was one of the best patrols yet for the pickrel.

Ah, interesting situation, thanks for the heads-up! Strange that you would get two sets of orders that become mutually incompatible.

...not to we who have been in the military..we often cite the example of the Marine given a direct order to pee in the corner while he was in the round house...he went crazy trying to comply...

...but back to the thread...:hmm: ...I was just getting over my phobia about reporting in then came this relevation...

I think it's pretty much a wash. You lose the renown you would have gained for completing a mission but gain renown for the report. You end up just about the same place. I'd have reported the convoy.

I would have reported them too.

Oh wait... I did :p

Anyhow, I just thought Id point this out as it may explain a few of the "I cant complete a mission" posts we see from time to time.

As far as getting renown points from the report I cant really say. I just wish we had realized that the mission would not complete 'a couple of days ago' instead of wasting our time and fuel out there.
