exception 0xc0000005

Hi,
I keep getting the above exception after T.C.ing across the Pacific. Maybe it isn't specific to SH4, I don't know, but perhaps one of you knowledgeable people has seen it before and has a solution. I sure hope so. I'm having to save in small chunks at the moment to prevent losing a lot of hard steaming.

That is a memory allocation error. Could be a fubared install of Sh4 to a physical memory problem.

Any details on the RAM? Total amount, amount per module, speed of the module(s), etc?

Hi,
Thanks to those of you who responded to my plea.
My memory is 4x512mb,DDR11,533. This has been in use for sometime before the problem appeared. I had U/G'd to Geforce 8600GT before it started, if this is significant.
I have reinstalled SH4 with T.M 1.76, TMO, TMO Service Pack and RSRDC_TMOv14_v370, in that order. I have 2 other installations so will run them to see if they have this problem.
Tests on the memory show no problems.

Well, if you recently upgraded the card, I'm gonna assume that you openend up the case. Maybe bumped one of the modules by accident? Could try going in again and re-seating the memory, maybe take 'm out and blow out any dust from the socket, you know fiddle with it a bit. (as long as you're carefull, ofcourse

)

If the problem started after the upgrade then the safest bet is to blame NVidia. Try upgrading to the newest drivers and see if that fixes it. If that doesn't work then fiddle with the card's settings a bit(ie. start with the eye candy off and start brining it back one bit at a time to see what causes the problem, if anything at that department)

Hi Guys,
My modules are firmly in place. The computer recognizes them.
I tried my other SH4 installations, they do not have a problem, so it seems to come down to the one with TM. Guess I'll uninstall and reinstall one mod at a time, running it after each install until it hits trouble again.

Hiya RR

When I want to find out if some problem is caused by fault memory I used this MS memory diagnostic tool - you'll need to burn to a CD and boot from it (there is a full guide on the webpage). It'll write and read to your memory over and over (there is an extended mode that takes ages but is really thorough). If your memory has some small error you should find it this way.

Plenty of other ways memory access can go awry though. Let us know what you find out.

Hi Lee,
Have run the diagnostic tool,Standard and Extended, nothing to report. Good news.
Now I'll start the long laborious task of installing mods and running each time until I hit trouble. Perhaps its an imcompatable mod. We shall see. This exception seems to come in lots of guises. My wife just switched her m/c on and said look at this, every time I try to use this program. It was the dreaded 0xc0000005! I told her to reboot and it went away. Wish it was that easy all the time.

Good, no expenses to new RAM! You're most likely right about it being a mod then.

Other problems might cause that 0xc0000005 thing though, so let us know if the mod approach doesn't solve the problem.
