Luftwaffe to the rescue

It's Oct. '41 & I started a career with the 23rd Flotilla. My boat is U-73. On our first patrol we encountered a 3 ship convoy (2 AA ships, 1 tramp steamer: there must have been something or someone of value on board to warrant 2 escorts) in CN 61. Just as I was sneaking away after destroying the tramp steamer who should show up but the Luftwaffe!A gaggle of Ju-88's & 87's arrived and proceeded to pound the crap out of the AA ships. As we were deep enough (120 meters) and the escort vessels were otherwise occupied I decided to increase speed to 1/3 & watch the battle unfold. One of the AA ships took some nasty damage from a very near miss. Our side lost 1 Ju-88 & 1 87 but the British got a bloody nose; the damaged AA vessel was smoking & listing as i was passing out of range.

It's nice to sit back and watch the RN get a sh*t-kicking for a change!

Given his well-known morphine addiction. he was only just able to pick-up the phone, let alone get off his fat, lazy £&*!

No doubt. I have a feeling Goering will never let us Kriegsmariners forget about this incident.

It's the first time I've heard of his Luftwaffe Airedales helping one of us, instead of stealing a kill and then leaving us to collect the escorts.

"If it's silver, it's the USAAF....
If it's green, it's the RAF...
If it's invisible, it's the Luftwaffe".

German Soldiers' saying.

If you're tuckered out from fighting with the LOLwaffe, you can refresh yourself with a delicious and healthy breakfast of Luftwaffles!

I don't credit The Fat One. He was probably too busy shopping in Paris that day. StG. 77 deserves the credit.

"If your quite finished in the kitchen, go wait in the bedroom"

Another classic 'one liner'

I've been bailed out by the Luftwaffe before. I ran into a pair of DDs near Heligoland once, they were covering a minelaying op. I missed my shots, and they came after me in fairly shallow water. Lucky for me, I had sent in a contact report. After almost an hour dodging DDs and trying to get out of their search pattern I start hearing explosions. Wait a minute says I, those arent depth charges ! So I switch to ship cams and find that a Ju-87 squadron has pounced on the destroyers. So i got to watch the last 8 or 9 Stukas make their runs.

It was beautiful. Flame, smoke and tracers all over the place. A couple planes were shot down, but both destroyers took at least two hits and sank. Wish I'd had fraps going.

So I surfaced, threw out some life preservers, and continued on to my patrol area.

Yeah it's all good when the save your bacon but wait until Hermann's fluffy booted flyboys start pinching your sinkings and renown. Our brothers with wings nicked the Rodney off me last week near Gibraltar! Four torps into her belly and she was settling nicely. While I'me ducking and covering as the DD's start to chase me, the fluffy booters start an attack which results in 2 (count them) two! bombs land on the Rodney and down she goes. No renown for me, nada zilch etc etc.

Next Lolwaffle prop jockey I see gets a kick in the balz!

I hadn't sent a contact report. Out of nowhere it seemed, the Luftwaffe just showed up & started beating up on the escorts! I've never seen that happen before. I'm not "looking a gift horse in the mouth" though. They turned up at exactly the right moment when I really needed a distraction. Maybe Herrmann was actually doing his job that day...:hmm:
