Default [WIP]Realistic Radarrange Mod

Hello Captains,

iam still working on an Mod which decreases the radarranges of the Fleetboats to an historical limit !

For example :

The first SJ Radar got an maximum range about 16.000 - 20.000 Yards and a precise range about 8.000 to 12.000 Yards which means that you can see big ships like Cruisers and BB´s in the maximum range.
Smaler ships are only visible in the precise range.

In Stock SH4 the maximum Range from the first SJ is about 54.000 Yards and the precise range is about 15.000 Yards.
This settings are unrealsitic.

The second Version of the SJ-Radar got maximum Ranges up to 30.000 Yards and precises Ranges from 12.000 to 18.000 Yards,

In Stock SH4 this one got very unrealistic setting of 74.000 Yards maximum and 20.000 Precise Range.

After changing this values my first testing was very succesfull.
My problem is the rangeselector.
I dont know where i can change the 80.000 Yards selector down to 40.000 Yards.
Did anyone know where i can change it or is it hardcoded ?

Another question is, where i can find the texture from the radardesk to change the 80.000 Yards-mark ?
In the picture you can see what texture i mean.

Sorry for my poor english.

I've been through this with my sadly not completed yet radar mod.

The actual range steps for each boat are in \data\interior\NSS_Porpoise\NSS_Porpoise_CT.sim in that file, the last two entries called radarview. The porpoise is the interior for most of the fleet boats, there is another for the S Boat as well. The first RadarView entry is the range steps for the 'A' Scope and the second is for the PPI scope. The value is in RadarView.RangeDim.Ranges.1 - 3.Step. The ranges are in multiples of the value in RangeSteps. So to change the highest range to 40k, change RadarView.RangeDim.Ranges.3.Step to 5000.

Also, my testing showed that the range value is in meters, not yards.

Testing also revealed that the maximum range of the radar in stock game is limitted to about 40 km, regardless of what range you put in. This is because the game only draws units when they are within a 20 mile radius of your sub. But changing the radar range is good, as the scale will be more useful.

The textures for the labelling is in \data\Textures\TNormal (and TLowRes)\tex\etichete.dds.

Thanx Nisgeis for this help !

I did the way you explained and all works fine !
Now it is much harder to find contacts on radar.

I will release this mod in a few days !
