XVIII?

So yeah, I just bought the Uboat missions yesterday, good stuff, go kriegsmarine! But I seem to either have a problem or am simply just confused about something, in the U-boat mission career menu the XVIII is not in the chooseable sub list, only the IX is, soo is the XVIII unlockable? Do I have to wait a certain amount of time? Whats up with it?

You can get one after you done some missions... I could get 1 after 3 patrols. 73% realism and normal difficulty. easy

You get one as soon as you hit 30k renown (Assuming it's April 1944 or later)
