Haven't seen major rises here yet, but they're on the way. The strange part is that we're not seeing a shift towards high gas/food prices, but a return from low prices.

Yes, I have seen it. but knew it was coming and stocked up to offset it. The economy in America has been attacked on purpose. Corruption in Government along with Globalization views of politicians. The Constitutional party will seek to to make amendments that will hopefully do away with the organized criminals. But that is going to take a while and hopefully we will survive it. My advise is buy in quantity when stuff is on sale. It is gonna be a long ride till it is over.

Food price on the rise... You should have noticed that earlier, no offense
Biofuel, as mentioned, is a cause. Quote:

More land is devoted to production of beer and other alcoholic drinks than to bio-fuel. And then there is game land, luxury crops, wildlife preserves, forestries etc. etc. An then there is the effect bio-fuel has on oil prices to counter and food rise.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=138955 The switch from food farming to fuel farming has done a lot of damage. And it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. the worldbank with its assessement is not early, but late. And biofuel is not having enough market shares to compensate for oil prices. With the exception of states like Brazil and Sweden maybe, the whole idea of biofuel saving the oil-dependant industry and technology is a nonbrainer from A to Z. the technology itself has become the problem. what is needed is a new industrial revolution, and a massive adjustement (=toning down) of our living and consummation styles. we simply take more than what the earth can reproduce, and pollute more than what the earth can clean, and live beyond our standards. THESE are the basic problems. every industrial growth and economical boost, leading to even more of what we already have in excess, and making more people in the world live by western industrial standards, is no solution to our problems, but aggrevates the existing ones. But why worrying, since the bills must be payed by the later generations.

When i say attacked I do not mean from without but from within. A system that allows special interest to pervade is not a system that serves the people.

I did not say that bio-fuel was not a factor in rising food prices. I was just pointing out that it is one of very many non-food, non-essential uses of potential farmland. You could cut food prices by cutting down bio-fuel production, but equally you could cut food prices by cutting down on luxery land use as listed above.

I think the US has enough land set aside for feeding our population. We don't need to be plowing under more of it.
