What is this "computer-free" thing of which you speak of?? :hmm:

Anyway, I can't think of a good board game at the moment, might remember something later

a Camping perhaps,

loved to go on camping vacation in France, no TV no Computer for about 14 days
playing card games, ''Jue de boules'' against the locals...we already lost before we got started :rotfl: . visiting WW2 Museums, places and graveyards.

good times, and a beautifull country.
(sorry for the little hi-jack)

That site Dan gave you is really worth looking at.

I'm searching my brain here to find good two player games, I have lots of boardgames but almost none are very good for 2 players

although Carcassone is pretty good

If you're willing to spend money on it, have a look at this list

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/browser...me&sortby=rank

number 30 Yinsh is well worth it and any game in their top 10 is well worth buying.

I've played quite a few of those and liked almost all of them

Battlegroup I think I've played, or something very similar at least, good for 2 players

this one is also 2 player http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2655

haven't played it myself, but a friend of mine has it, seems to enjoy it

Ooh, BattleTech is fun, I'm pretty sure you can print out most of the game or otherwise buy the pieces

Sheesh, It's been a while since I played...

Also, one Boardgame I always wanted to play but never had the chance was the original Crimson Skies, wonder if I can still find it

I found a free printable game called Sovereign Seas Lite

It's about Naval Combat in the Ironclad era, their weird dice system can be tedious but if you can get around that and some other quirks it can be really fun (Even though some ships are HORRIBLY unbalanced, the stock British Steam Frigate is so insanely superior to the French Steam Frigate that it stopped being funny when my conning tower, a gun and half my hull was gone as soon as the firing started when I played a single ship game with my dad)

But anyway, it's rather fun

Try looking at agame 'Manouevre' by GMT. Think Napoelonic except it has a set of geomorphic maps 4x4 each of which there are 24. Also 8 sets of cards for the usual European nations of the era.
The play is very good and interactive as neither opponent knows what the other has in hand. Go to Boardgamegeek for reviews etc

very replayable. I've been playing board games for 30 thirty years and enjoy this one

Depending on your tendencies, my friends and I have played the likes of:

Descent: Journeys in the Dark
Runebound
Fury of Dracula
Escape from Colditz Castle

Ah, there's also Harpoon if you have A LOT of time on your hands. Some of it's out-dated now, but it can be very fun.

As for war games, you can't beat Axis and Allies for fun, and now they've got a lot of expansions for it.

They're not really war games, but the last one is a pretty neat concept

Tide of Iron is good!

For 2 player games you could also look into the following:
War of the Ring - the basic one - this should take you the whole weekend
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ltr07.html

Lock'n load - no minis but cool rules
http://locknloadgame.com/Section_Cat...3&SID=33&ID=49

World at War (ww3 that is, a little higher level)
http://locknloadgame.com/Section_Cat...2&SID=33&ID=55

Fire in the Sky if you can still find it
http://www.multimanpublishing.com/IGS/prodfits.php

Fury of Dracula is GREAT but not for 2 players! I suspect the same about Runebound, Descent.

Since you are in France you can go to Paris to Jeux Descartes (http://www.jeux-descartes.fr/) - they have a surprisingly good collection which includes both Tide of Iron and the Days of the Fox Expansion
and lots of hardcore stuff. I recently picked up the following games from them:

Duel in the Dark - http://boardgamegeek.com/game/27048 - good but not as deep as I expected.
Corps Command - Totensonntag - http://locknloadgame.com/Section_Cat...&SCAT=75&ID=69
- played only once and undecided, I think I expected more from it.

But I think I got her hooked on Tide of Iron, and maybe we'll pick one of these card games too :hmm:
I saw a few games freely downloadable but I'd prefer something with a sturdy board/cards/units
Since we're talking a girl, think wisely - my experience is that girls like more the economic - no direct contest - type of game.

They like to kick you and beat you, but not in military combat. And they prefer the kind of game where you can't be taken out easily or at all.

Glad to help,

In the Jeux Descartes shop I visited - the one in the Ecoles area - you'll have to go downstairs to see the boardgames area. So make sure you don't run away scared because "upstairs" is all full of collectible card games etc.

More on the girls games, my girl and her friends love to play (with me):
-Settlers of Catan - http://boardgamegeek.com/game/13
-Puerto Rico - http://boardgamegeek.com/game/3076
-Gloom - http://boardgamegeek.com/game/12692
-Fury of Dracula

Unfortunately these all work better or actually NEED more than 2 players. According to my co-workers this should do well for a 2 players game:

Race for the Galaxy - http://boardgamegeek.com/game/28143

Boardgaming is always better with more players
