Overtaxed
In my early years after having left my parent's home and was at university, I was earning small money only, there were times when I had some debts, and red numbers on my banking account. Never some stellar debts, but enough to give me some concerns, seen by the standards of that time of my life. I payed them back, always, never missed a single rate. When you ask for help and lease some money, you are expected to pay it back, right? If you ask friends for help, it's part of your respect for them that you pay it back. If you ask a bank, it is part of the deal, and part of the treaty anyway. You owe somebody - you make the bill straight again better sooner than later. If not already obligatory it is at least a call of fairness nevertheless.
Hillary Clinton has excessively overbid her handful of cards. 20+ million dollars in debts - that is quite a bit. Obviously she did not know when it was time to halt and start thinking about the "what if...". Now, she is not in a mess, for she now has debts, and that seem to be a common thing in presidential campaigns, and I am sure it does nto affect her way of life a bit. Sure, it tells something about a procedure that demands big money to allow somebody the chance to run for president. But the real mess happens to be for those who gave her money - and who are left with the money gone. So far, so well, nothing new so far, it all happened before in campaigns. Obama's fans so far seem to have been very hesitent to come up for her debts, I read that just around 100.000 dollars have been collected by Obama's calls to support clinton. But what I read now I find very disgusting. clinton has started a campaign by which she asks people to let her get away with it, fill in a form by which permission is given to use the money already spend for campaigns in 2010 and 2012 so that clinton can "keep on fighting for the cause of the American people", even more, the mail includes a text saying that if the adressed person does not respond within six weeks, the money automatically will be kept for the adressed purpose of future campaigns. Well, that's rich, isn't it. More than anything else, this detail has done it's share to not let me trust this person a bit. One should know when enough is enough, but in her ambition to come to power at all costs, she took the part saying "at all costs" a bit too literally, it seems. And that she claims to wish to drive on, and claims to do this in the name of the people, is disgusting. German media reported that her former fans are not too happy, too: many now seem to threaten to vote for McCain, beeing driven away by her shameless behavior. Add to them those vopters leaving democrats standing in the rain for being too dissapointed that Clinton has not won, but Obama. The risk that the democarts now loose the elction may be much greater than many people seem to realise. the long race in the dem'S camp was soemthing they should zhave avoided AT ALL COSTS. It maybe already has costed them the election. Some people maybe would say that Clinton has become victim of a system where a president always is a big money president anyway, and the political power correlates with the numbers on the banking accounts of the actors and their donors, but I don't buy it. She has been aware of what she was doing, she willed to get caught by the mechanisms, she had every day as an opportunity to think on her status and see where it all was leading. Some may see it as clever or acceptable that she claims her debts to be investements into future campaigns, but I call it disgusting and shameless. She deserves a spanking for that cheat. Because nothing else than cheating it is. ![]() http://www.observer.com/2008/politic...nor-money-2012

Hi Sky;
Yes indeed, the dictionary definition of "overtaxed" includes being overworked or overstrained, but I think everybody saw it and immediately thought "too many taxes". Even then I don't know why anyone would be upset if said Americans are overtaxed by that meaning - most of us think so too. Good post, even though I could care less about Hellary and her problems. ![]()

No, no, not necessarily the wrong word. I can see how you would apply it to Clinton's campaign debt. "Overextended" might fit better, but no big deal. I was just making a joke about overtaxed as in "too many taxes costing me $$"

"Cost“ ist ein besonderes Wort. Das Geschenk, Zukunft, und Präteritum vom Wort ist alle gleich. ... Cost !

Should have known that.
![]() Well, I certainly produce a lot of errors. Most are simple typos caused by typing too fast, but there are still enough things I intentionally do wrong. ![]() BTW, a "Geschenk " is a "gift". "Present" (time, grammar) is "Präsens" ![]() ![]() So, das hast Du jetzt davon! ![]()

The only reason that I even noticed the error is.. I used to make the exact same error all the time in my youth...
"costed" makes perfect logical sense ! But I was in error thinking there was anything logical about the English language! Being the son of an English Professor I had that lesson drummed into my skull repeatedly!.. so in the end I paid for my error.. it costed me a lot! :p |
