Default depth charge damage

Hi all,

Sorry for my english, it's not my native language.
An article in wikipedia about depth charge (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenade_anti_sous-marine, it's french) say depth charge cause damage at hull when they are very close. Sub sink with a damage accumulation.
So, with that damage, sub compartiment and equipement take damage if a deph charge explode, but hull integrity take damage if the deph charge explode near the sub.

Explosion range where equipement take damage = 50m
Explosion range where hull take damage = 10m

I use the damage model of GW2 for the sub .zon files.

Any feedback are welcome. But please, use easy word if you talk in english

It is difficult to be exact.

The British Mark VII DC had a 290kg TNT charge. The British claimed it would split a 22mm steel hull at 6 metres and would force a U-boat to surface at 12 metres.

later in the War the TNT was replaced with minol (more powerful per Kg)

The British claimed that the minol charge would split a 22mm hull at 12 metres and force a U-Boat to surface at 24 metres. That was under perfect test conditions!!! In real life, they were probably not so effective at those ranges.

But damage could depend on many factors:

depth of explosion (water pressure)
which part of the U-boat was nearest to the explosion;
angle of hull to centre of explosion.
movement and speed of the boat relative to the explosion. etc

I think it is safe to say that a DC exploding up to 10m from a boat had a good chance of causing damage, but between 6m and 10m not always to the hull.

50m is a long way away. The U boat would shake, but damage ?????? Perhaps not at that range.

SIngle hits from a DC which destroyed a boat were probably rare. The boats were battered to death. Each explosion close enough to cause damage would cause new damage and add to damage from earlier explosions until the structural damage became critical and the hull gave way, or the flooding could no longer be controlled and the U-boat sank out of control until it was crushed by the water pressure.

We should also remember the effect on the crew of hours of DC attacks. It would have affected some men like shell-shocjk (battle fatigue ). They would have become inefficient and much more likely to make mistakes. In severe cases men would have panicked, or become totally immobile and unable to do anything.
