Default How to interact on GT: A guide

There seems to be a lot of problem with this lately, and a number of threads are very close to getting out of hand, so I'll expound on a few points.

1. SubSim.com in not an inherently political forum. However, if you wish to argue politics, do so without personally attacking others. Argue the point, not the person.

2. Hit-and-run tactics are heavily discouraged. Don't go into someone's thread, post an inflamatory one liner, and sit hoping that you can get the thread derailed. This is very poor etiquitte.

3. Agree to disagree. I've been here since 2000 and have yet to see a single person have their mind changed on any GT issue. It is a fact that the chances of a thread getting out of hand multiply as the thread goes on. If you see this, be the bigger person and bow out. You'll never get the last word in anyway.

4. Use PM. We all know that threads are inherently organic, and that side discussions arise. Don't take the threads off track, just use PM to continue your side discussion. That's what it's there for.

5. Post sensibly. There are really just only so many hot threads that the moderators are going to tollerate going at any given time. Otherwise, the work load is tremendous. Use your common sense as to whether the board needs to delve into that abortion thread right now.

Just some friendly reminders from your friendly neighborhood moderator.
