Default New Iraq report - 15 of 18 benchmarks satidfactory

Some good news that the Media didn't bother with I see. If its not failing, or blood in guts over there, then no news.

But subman, to report good news would mean things are going well over there, and nobody can acknowledge that anything good is happening over there!

This is logical.

It should be noted that this was a White House assessment

"The White House sees the progress in a particularly positive light, declaring in a new assessment to Congress that Iraq's efforts on 15 of 18 benchmarks are "satisfactory"—almost twice of what it determined to be the case a year ago."

It is in the best interest of the administration to interpret the benchmarks in the best possible light for political purposes.

Has this information been confirmed from other than White House sources? Are there any dissenting assessments?

Great. Now we can withdraw our troops and bring them home. I'm sure the Iraqi people can take care of those pesky last 3 benchmarks on their own without our interference. So when do the troop withdrawls start? Can we tell all those poor sods going back for their fourth and fifth tours they can stay home so they won't have to kill themselves?

Huzzah and Hully Gee! Victory in Iraq is achieved. Send the troop transports and bring them all home.

If they have any further problems, I'm sure those nice folks at Blackwater will be more than happy to help out. The Iraqis can pay them so we don't have to. If they get killed, well, they knew the job was dangerous when they took it.

What about the last 3? Still need to fix those first before troops get on home.

Why? 15 of 18 is almost complete. What's the matter? Don't you trust those Iraqis to finish the job? It's cost us almost 2 Trillion dollars so far. Don't you have any confidence in our little Iraqi brothers to shoulder the load? I hear it's getting to be as quiet and democratic as colonial Virginia. According to most of the polls I've seen, a majority of Sunnis, Shi'ites and Kurds want us to leave now. Do we believe in majority rule or not? We also know the majority oppose permanent US bases there and immunity for soldiers and contractors from Iraqi law the we helped them formulate. It seems to me the Iraqis are singing this song I posted on mt publishing webpage here:

How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away?
by Dan Hicks

Quote:
I talked to your mother and I talked to your Dad.
They say they tried but it's all in vain.
I begged and I pleaded, I even got mad.
Now we must face it. You give me a pain.

Chorus
How can I miss you when you won't go away?
I keep telling you day after day.
But you don't listen, you only stay and stay.
How can I miss you when you won't go away?

Your never-ending presence really cramps my style.
I dream it won't always be the same.
At first I was attracted, but after a while,
Have you ever heard of the hard-to-get game?

Chorus

Out of six billion people, why must it be me?
Why, oh why won't you turn me loose?
Do me a favor and listen to my plea.
I'm not the only chicken on the roost.

Chorus

I talked to your mother and I talked to your Dad.
They say they tried and it's all in vain.
I begged and I pleaded, I even got mad.
Now we must face it, you give me pain.

Chorus

WHY DID THIS HAVE TO POST THIS!!???

Now I have to rant about Iraq because I can't just do the sensible thing and shutup.
I shall try to embrace brevity here.

a) This war/occupation was a waste of time and money.
b) That being said, if you believe in human rights and democracy, it's great.
c) It has the potential to create a stable and (about friggin time) prosperous democratic nation that will help to stabilize surrounding regions. Or piss them off.
d) This occupation is being completely mishandled. What we really need is an army of native arabs who can serve as a KGB to ferret out insurgents. The "coalition" should merely maintain firebases and respond to insugent activity reports. Shows of force and troop presence to reassure the population is a waste of lives.
e) Just when we were in unspeakably massive debt, we open another money pit. Good job Washington.
f) Native Iraqis or Iraqi-Americans should be running our government contracts (in-country, naturally) if our interest is their welfare. Of course, it isn't.
g) Now that we've changed the mess, we should clean it up. It isn't right to destroy a country (no matter how crappy it is) and then just leave it. Millions of Iraqis are counting on the U.S. to bring them a better future like we promised when we blew their world up. Let's just make sure we do it as effeciently as possible and try not to make this mistake again.
