Default manual targetting question

im usin wazoo's manual targetting tutorial but im stuck at this part

Step #3: Enter Speed and Torpedo Settings in TDC

Go to the TDC screen and click the Red Manual Solution button so it turns Green.
This tells you that you can now change settings manually.

Enter the Target Speed into the TDC
Turn the SPEED dial until it shows the target speed you determined earlier. In
our example, it is between 3 and 3.5 knots.
Turn the Manual Solution button back OFF to Red
When the Manual Solution button is RED, the optical viewer (i.e. your scope or UZO) automatically updates your
AoB after the AoB is entered as the bearing to target changes in the scope. This will be VERY important later on
when we enter the AoB into the TDC. REMEMBER: Turn the Manual Solution button back OFF to RED after you
enter your speed.

the thing is i cant find any manual solution button?

I completed a career about 2-3 weeks ago without using solutions. Here's how;
1) Target speed 0, AOB whatever, range whatever. (clarification, these values do not matter. Only target speed 0 matters.

2) Be within 1000 yards. Guess target speed or clock it on attack map. Attacking destroyers circling across your bow are always 10-12 kts unless a ship is in their way.

3) Manual input must be on. fire angle must be 0 in relation to the tube.

4) turn periscope the same number of degrees in the direction of the target as its speed in knots.

5) When target enters scope open tube.

6) When desired target point crosses 0, fire.

7) If zigzagging subtract 1 degree and fire just a little after target's bow crosses 0
This will almost always produce a hit somewhere.

8) Use your judgement over the course of your career to adjust your aim in different scenarios. That's how real U-boatmen do it.

9) Always use impact fuse when using this method and make sure you are close to 90/270 AOB. All merchants worth sinking are 2-3m all destroyers are 1.5 unless in rough seas where you have to look up the draft and use a mag.

I have sunk (in 4 campaigns) over 3 million tons of shipping with this method. Maybe it will help u too.

Oh yeah, to answer your question the manual solution button is the small button in your attack map that looks a bit like a conical light bulb pointed towards you. It is just above one of the torpedo input dials.

The button is to the top right of the TDC panel on the F6 screen.

If he uses OLC's gui mod (which I conclude by him posting in that thread) it is also automatically set to manual and back when opening/closing the small 4-dial TDC panel above the message window. It's simply set to manual when the pannel is visible, and auto when not.

Just checked ingame, the button (mentioned by joegrundman) that is in stock SH3 and GWX is removed by OLC. So you can only set manual/auto by the button I mentioned above. ... Or with the button in the 3d control-room view. But that is not convenient.

The standard way with OLC2 GUI identifying the ship is to lock onto the ship and order the WA to identify it. On success the type is written just below the center of the scope, uzo or observationscope as long as they are are centered on the target or locked. Click on the typing and the book opens automaticly with the right page. U can turn them to whatever direction u like and when u go back to this ship the ship ID still pops up for use.

Unlike in stock sh3 user based identification (N-key or click on the book) in GWX and other supermods works only if u are using the scopes/uzo/observationscope. It has the disadvantage that it is difficult to use the ID book if the target is not clear visible in either of those 3, submerged below scopedepth, rough sea/wheather etc..

The popular use of "external camera-toggle for the target-open ID book-browse though" it is still possible by "memorize the shipshape-switch to scope-open book-browse for it" but its of cause more timeconsuming and buggy due to the the limitation of the human brain.

Weird is that that u see the bookcover but cannot browse through it. I just leftclick anywhere on the cover and it opens with the 1st page or last viewed of the selected nation. Only if u try to open with "Albania" as nation nothing happens cause it doesnt have any Navy.

yeah its workin now after a reload, i swear i was clickin on it before and it wouldnt open but its ok now.

the vid tuturials do a good job of explainin things but one problem is calculating speed. it says there should be a scratch mark just to the right of the 0 degree point of the AOB tool but there isnt one on mine. the only one i have is to the bottom right

The scratchmark should be at about 58 degrees, so between 55 and 60 should be a little bit skewed mark. That's the speed converison mark.

And since that lower right mark is only for use with 1.5x/6x magnification conversion (for the dual magnification in original OLC Gui, the special gui is one mangification setting) you can ignore it.

Interesting!
You might be interested in my torpedo bearing table though, it's based on the same attacks you make it seems.
