I just upgraded my "old" machine with a new graphic card and i want to play sh4 but there are two big Mods packs.
![]() what differences have the two mods? realism ?gameplay, ? eye candy? ![]() i would apreciate more info about these big packs and then decide about one of them.:hmm:

no discussion for me i would go for trigger maru overhauled (vs 1.5) it is WAY WAY WAY better and it will Rock when you combine it with RSRDC TMO. For a list of my mods see the thread "SH4 kicks ass of sh3"

TMO is pretty much in completed form as per Duci. RFB is still evolving. Very playable in it's current download. So, you can play TMO and enjoy it as it is or play RFB and grow with it as it evolves. Both are good (I have not used TMO but look at the sticky thread and you decide. You will not be disappointed). Now, IMO these mods are great and with RSRD/Operation Monsun are superb. To further that notion, PE2 or Environment 4.4 for the outside world are a must. Pick the one you like.
My current mods: PE2 RFB RSRD Mega-bites of happiness. This is all you need.

Do you prefer apples or oranges?
![]() From what I know RFB is geared towards "realism", whist TM has fudged "realism" slightly in favour of playability. For me, I chose TM (at that time RFB wasn't available yet). I liked it, so there was no compelling reason to try out RFB. So... pick one, try it out. Then use the other. Then see what suits you best. |

do a multiple install with multish4.exe
yo will need three flavored installs and a fourth base. the fourth base goes in C/xx/program files, and its a clean sh4 patched upto V1.5 with Uboat Missions then there come your three basic extra installs: copy the whole folder and run multish4.... go with the following names: UBM, RFB and TMO UBM: is 1.5 w/operation monsun RFB: RFB with RSRD to the latest TMO: idem, but with TMO and RSRD Personally I like TMO, and have been playing with the pocket battleship mod with UBM... but I have found problems with the TMO/OPMonsum patch so I have separate installs... if you have the space in your HD go with this four installs and DONT touch your base install in case something goes wrong, you´ll have the game already installed in your PC. a recomendation: download all the mods to a single folder and burn it to CD or DVD once a month... in case something real bad happens... trust me, I have seen smoke pouring out of my main HD 5 months ago.. but the data was safe.

![]() Captain America has mentioned some pretty nifty ideas to me about things he'd like to do to TM and publish them as a mod, and asked my permission to do just that, so if/when he does publish that (his) version of TM, i hope folks don't jump the gun and assume "theft" on his part. I have long thought about a compled version of the latest TM and RSRD, but realistically speaking, the only reason to do so is what is tantamount to "JSGME symantics", as the only tangible benefit is the elimination of files ovewriting files. Folks have been running them as they have just fine for awhile now, so in the end i don't see much reason to make a compiled version. Although if someone wanted to do so, i certainly won't say no. (Although id check with Lurker first if one were to do so) As per the differences between RFB and TM, im hard pressed to conjur a conclusive list of differences. There is some cross pollination in mods and ideas, so in some ways they're very similar, and in other ways very different. In the end i can only speak of TM since ive never played RFB (where would i have the time to?) TM rides a very fine line between realism/historical accuracy and what can only be described as "gameplay". Some will cite TM as being THE historically accurate mod, and others will cite what i just did iin the previous sentence. In the end, as realism goes, one of my goals was to encourage realistic behavior on the part of the player. This is sometimes done through abstract means which some users may not agree with, but i degress, ive always reserved the right of "artistic license" in order to achieve my end goal, which again, was to make the player behave realistically. The biggest examples of "behavior shaping" in TM are aircraft and AI detection. |

The beauty of SH4 and JSGME is you can have it both ways. For me, it's like picking which kid you like best, I love both mods, hell play both. You can change out in just a few minutes and be ready to go or you can do as mentioned above and do multiple installs.
