Default Old SH3 player needs comparisons to SH4

Hi, I used to play a little of SH3. I have always loved subs and sub sims. Anyway, I am thinking of buying SH4. One thing I did not like about SH3 was having to manage the crew. I know it was realistic, but I found it boring. Do you need to manage the crew in SH4? Also can you save the game in mid mission or career. I hated that if the game ctd I would lose all my progress in my mission. One more thing I have a dual 2.4 GHZ Pentium with 2 gigs of Ram and a Nvidia 7600 GT graphics card, will I be ok to play this game? Thanks for you help. I hope to rejoin you all again soon.

Imo crew management works much better in SH4. Your crew is divided into team that will alternate automatically.

It also solved the problem of crew not getting tired at high speed compression (because you really couldn't be bothered to switch them around as often as it would be needed).

When in a tough spot you will still need to call them to battle stations and dismiss them afterwards. Each can be done with one mouse click though.

Saves during missions works fine for me.

Unsure about the specs.

SH4 uses a watch system, and the watches automatically rotate. Even in SH3, there was an early "no-fatigue" mod, so you could set up the compartment compliments the way you wanted, and then forget about crew management. SH3 Commander also has a "no fatigue" option, so no need to constantly manage your crew in either sim.

In SH4, ordering battle stations wakes up ALL crew and puts them to work, so damage repairs and torpedo reloads go faster. BUT, be sure to cancel battle stations when the crisis is past, or they may become so fatigued that they all crash at the same time - and your boat literally shuts down then as there is no one manning anything anymore.

Slim, I have a rig similar to yours that runs SH-IV no problem. I would also say that it is a definite winner and although I personally prefer the Atlantic submarine campaign, commanding a big Fleet Boat in the warm waters of the South Pacific does have certain attractions

I also run a 7600GT and it runs SH4 with all graphics settings wide open with no problem. Frame rates are in the 20s on exterior view looking at the sub.

You should go for it for another great angle on the World War II submarine war.

Thanks for all the prompt replies, I have ordered the game on Amazon for $20 and I will be sailing in about a week. Look forward to joining the fleet soon. Thanks.

I also have a: AMDAthlon 64x 2 Dual
Core Processor 4200+
Nvidia 7600 GT + 1.00 gig ram

Nvidia 7600 GT v 1.5.2400.10 updated to the 176. ??

It plays beautifully on mine. But look on the forums for a post re altering the Nvidia card settings. I have done these and it really works.
Also try d/l Pacific Environments 3.3 +patch
Trigger MAru Overhauled 1.4 (if you don't have the 1.5 U-Boat Missions yet)

If you look in all the posts on both forums you will find all you need!

Hope this all helps
