I have completed 17 deployments with the original files and now have done 20 with the patch installed and would not recommend the patch to players that do not read German. Most, or all, of the original installation had translations to English but with the patch, only the deployment description done at the base are English. All other is now in German. I have tried online translation services to help me along but that is inadequate. (the script is old script and you first have to translate to a script that the translator will work with).
The deployment objectives change as you get deeper into the war. For example, radio message begin to be received and I cannot tell what was sighted and if there are special instructions in the message. I did not successfully complete mission 21 as the objectives are in German and I could not read them. BTW, in the radio messages, is the compass reading the heading or the sighted bearing? Mission 22 messages all say 81 or 82 degrees but the ship is actually going westnorthwest at about 280 degrees. ( I did find it and expected a convoy but it was only a lone oiler). I am enjoying it but would rather be doing the English version. Have considered reinstalling it and skipping the patch but don't want to do missions for a 3rd time. Can get most of the patch improvements as mods anyway. |

Ran my first career mission last night and rather enjoyed my feeble german language translation skills. It could be the hardest thing about this sim outside of different keystrokes to remember. Used to piss me off when I would press enter to come out of time compression in Silent Hunter and fire a torpedoe.
