Best mods to download ?

Hi Guys:hmm:
Not long playing SH3 and i spend every spare hour i have playing and downloading mods to try (pure addict ),a few guestions i would like to ask my fellow u boat captains and get your valued experience ?.
This is the computer i am using and is not a branded one.
AMD Athlon 64 processor 4000+ (2.40 ghz)
2 gb of ram
Radeon x1300 series vid card (i think it has 256 ram)
1/ game freezes a lot when i speed up to 2048 on time compression
2/sometime crashes to desktop and i have to reload game it asks do i want to send info to microsoft on crash !
3/ what would the best mods to instal to improve the game effect i have all patches and GWX 2.0 and a mod enabler.i would take a snap shoot of what mods i have and list them but i dont know how to not very good on that sort of thing.

Your specs should be fine (there better than mine...Athlon 3200, 2GB RAM Nvidia 7800GS) to update to GWX2.1

1. I do not go above 1024 TC at all...even though mine will handle 2048.

3. First, get GWX 2.1 and the small fix. After that, it is a matter of choice. Many like the extra ships...many like the different GUI that OLC has put together...it is just a matter of mix and match until you are comfortable with it.

P.S. Your computer is certainly up to it from what I can see...I might suggest that you do a complete reinstall of your game...following all of the instructions on clearing out the old game, cleaning up and defragging the hard drive, rebooting between installing each separate piece, etc. Almost sounds to me as if you have a bad file somewhere...but that is just my humble opinion.

glad youve found sh3...you'l never look back.

dont know why your game is freezing on 2048.....ive got a 2.6 processor 512mb ram and a 128mb nvidia card and ive no probs other than things slowing near a large convoy. do you disable your firewall and antivirus and all those little processes running in the background?
this might help.

as for mods

rubinis lifeboat v3 mod is fantastic

nowt better than surfacing among lifeboats full of survivors......incredible

Thanks guys for all the help i am going to work on it,a quick question though is how to disable any programs that work in the backgound without disabling ones that you may need ?,is there a program out there that will do it.

I think a 7800 is way faster than an X1300. The 1300 is a low end card, it has only half the fillrate of a Radeon 9800 Pro that's 2 generations older.

I was not referring to every detail but more in generalistic terms.....otherwise I would have stated "in every area/department"

I think having less than half the video will hurt more than having a slightly faster processor will help. So in general terms, his specs are worse than yours :p

Hey dude, you might try increasing the compression slowly.

e.g I have a Intel 2.66 Dual core, with 2GB good ram, and a decent video card.

And it sometimes , goes /skips when I have it on 4098 compression. I have found that if you put it into the max straight away it sometimes will be laggy, jumpy for about 20 secs, so try going slowly e.g put it up to 512, wait for it to get smooth, then put it up to 1028, then wait until its smooth, then put it up again. Giving the pc, game time to catch up with it.


Just a suggestion, but it works well for me .

Avoid using max TC for extended periods without breaks. At max TC you can miss out on some contacts that you might otherwise have gotten. GWX also throws some surprises at you, ie. a DE, DD or Armed Trawler that your watch crew fails to spot in time. This has happened to me; mostly in in bad weather.

am taking all that you said onboard and getting to know the game,i hear you talikng about a small fix for GWX2.1,can you tell me were to find it on the downloads as i cannot seem to find it.i will keep the compression low from now on as i find that you are right and also it does enhance the game to experience the patrol and also from running in to lead ships in a convoy !!!!!!! ,as for rich girlfriends and wives they will never understand what SH is,they have this strange idea that it is just a game !!!!!( i just bought a bigger monitor with money from the holiday fund so if i go silent you will know that i have been found out........
