I'm no expert but my guess is that you need more RAM. What version of Windows do you use? I know that Vista uses a lot of memory & GWX adds a lot of objects (ships, planes, etc.) that aren't present in the stock game. Those extra objects get loaded into memory every time you start the game; that's why it takes so long to load. You can try using the "Lite Harbor" mod included in GWX to lessen the strain on your pc. It reduces the amount of ships in friendly harbors. If you have the SH 3 Cmdr add-on the latest version lets you start patrols at sea, which also takes some of the load off the computer.

I don't know if it's a problem with your AGP port. All I can tell you is that the GWX add-on takes a lot of your system's resources to run. Using the "Lite Harbor" mod or "Starting Patrols at Sea" can help lesson the load on your pc but if you're getting critical bios errors then you have a big problem. Unfortunately I don't know very much about the bios. Ask a technical person & be extremely careful about making changes to the bios because if you make a mistake you can permanently damage your system.

Your specs should be sufficient, but there is obviously an underlying problem.

Ideally, I would upgrade the graphics card and add to the RAM.

I used to run on fairly similar specs to yours. How much free RAM do you have just before starting up SH3? Do you have a lot of background services/processes running? Have a look in your Task Manager, although that won't show the services which can take up quite a lot of RAM.

Best is to shut down as many unnecessary services and processes that you can to free up RAM. I pull the internet cable out so that I can shut down AV and anti-malware.

You might want to search in the forum for references to FSAutostart, which is a nifty program for shutting down services and processes. It's very easy to use. Then after a clean boot and running FSAutostart then try running SH3.

Be sure to shut down the Themes service. It's a big resource hog & all it really does is make your Windows look pretty. Also, go into Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System > Advanced > Performance and tick "Adjust for best performance". This will free up some of your system's memory.

If you have 1.25G free RAM, then likely the problem lies elsewhere. My point was simply (not knowing your free RAM situation) to check it and if low to shutdown background services/processes, but sounds like you've done that.

Enable the Lite Harbor mod using the JSGME program that was installed when you installed GWX 2.0.
