Default Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl

Anyone else playing this?

Im hooked on it. Can't put it down.

Best modpack ive seen for it (with some minor tweakings), is a mod called "Oblivion Lost 2.0". Makes the game a whole new experience. I forced myself to play it "near stock" (again, some minor modding by me), before i switched to the supermod.

Addictive... very addictive. Anyone who was a fan of fallout will love this game.

I gave up on it because it was making me feel depressed, and will probably not get Clear Sky because of that. But despite the lack of freedom and promised rpg features (one should be careful with fallout comments nowadays), it is very special, and I don't regret having it.

Well, it feels very post apocalyptic. It's supposed to be depressive! I find myself scavaging for the basics in order to survive, hence it reminds me of fallout. Just without the indepth characters. Ironicly, this game is very much like SH3 or SH4. Vanilla is not very impressive. Load up a supermod, and it changes dramatically. (Total free play being one of those dramatic changes, i can wander anywhere now, and the game doesnt really ever "end". You can do the main quest but you don't have to anymore )

edit:

Check out the readme on this bad boy:

Bookmarked it. Will probably go for another romp in STALKER anyway, and some new material would be good for a change of pace.

I'll tell you one thing, the AI acutally using grenades now adds a pucker factor that was previously absent. I find myself displacing alot, rather then sit in one spot from behind a tree and taking pot shots like im at a shooting gallery.

Yeah, vanilla STALKER is a pretty worthless game. You can single handedly fix it using the right mod. The biggest problem with the game was absurdly easy it is. Once you get that first G36 its headshot honcho all the way to the end of the game and that ruins it. It also doesn't help that 90% of the modders are cripplingly retarded and are trying to make the game EASIER by allowing the player to carry 500kilos or one shot guys in the chest.

Oh trust me, this mod im using (linked above) makes the game harder. I was cussing a mean streak when i encountered the "new and improved" mutant called a Controller. Those things are death incarnate, if i ever run into another one again, it will be too soon.

edit: that said, Headshots from afar are desiarable now. Before i had no problem runnning a zig zag up to their face and pop them with a shotgun, whereas now, i hate getting in close.
