Default VIIC/41

I love my VIIC for Mediterranean patrols, but what are the advantages of a VIIC/41?
I've got a fair amount of renown stockpiled but I don't want to splash out 3000 renown if it's not really worth the upgrade.

I read that the Type VIIC/41 can go deeper than a regular VIIC.

Well I went from a viib to viic/41 (cobalts) and max depth went from about 230 to about 340 (test dive with plains on normal dive ahead slow). Of course the depth gauge maxes out at 260 but the # indicator and CE will tell depth.
Snorkle (late war) and some other radar jazz that I'm not sure a viib gets. Then again without the extra depth I've never had a type 7 career last past 43-44 before.

Thank you, danurve.
The last patrol had me hounded by DDs for a couple of hours and the VIIC kept getting detected at 270m (I didn't dare take it any deeper!). 3000 renown is a small price to pay for the extra sea room that 70m will give me.

So you CAN take a -41 to 340M? What about the -42?

Accdg. to Wikipedia,
Quote:
The Type VIIC/42 was designed in 1942 and 1943 to replace the aging Type VIIC. It would have had a much stronger pressure hull, with skin thickness up to 28 mm, and would have dived twice as deep as the previous VIICs.
That's a crush depth of 350 to 400m!:hmm:

Default VIIC/42

What are people's thoughts on the VIIC/42. The only difference I can see from the /41 is the additional torpedoes.

I'd love to hear more about the max depths of the two boats too, from experienced captains (of those boats) if possible. I'm really enjoying the firepower of my IXB, but having that extra depth is probably going to be really handy, really soon!
