Default Distance using sonar - question

Hello

My question is simple, when I check distance to target using sonar, in what units does it show ? (km, nm). Does it depend what units I chose in options ?

Cheers

Sorry, my english is not good, I don't understand your answer.

I meant when I go to sonar station there is option "Range to taget". When I use it range appears but it shows only numbers without units, example: SO Range to target is 21233". What units does this range show, kilometers, nautical miles ?

Yards if you're playing with Imperial units, meters if you're playing with metric?

I'm not entirely sure about that, but it seems about right to me.

Yes, I though it works like that too but I did a test. I saved game during patrol when I have one sonar contact, I checked range and it showed about 2100, than I quited the game, changed units to metric and it showed the same number again...Well at this point I am litlle confused..

Well in my short experence the sonar range to target can be off by as much as 10% on range. Since a Meter is only slightly longer then a yard the values will be similar. However if you are quite confident it doesn't change when you switch units, it's probably in yards.

For a hands-on video of using the sonar to get range and bearing see my post at http://www.subsowespac.org/forum/ind...7.html#msg1867

There you can download the video and actually see how it works in action. I hope it inspires you to put some Japanese steel on the bottom of the ocean where it belongs.
