Neutral my butt!

So I'm surfaced in BD 29 at ahead 1/3 when all of a sudden I'm getting shelled from afar. I dive to periscop and find it's a squadron of 6 American destroyers. I'm thinking that's a little weird that they initiated contact in November 1941 so I play it cool...that's when the depth charges come. The first lot hit when I'm still only at 130metres and it hammers me big time.. For the next 5 hours I'm getting creamed as the damage I've sustained limits my depth to 80 metres (or hull integrity degrades and I flood). So I decide enough is enough - at 17% hull (and now to 50 metres) I've given them enough of a head start and I fire back. I sink 5 of them before the last decides to run home to mumma.

Anyway, they were the first ships I'd sunk on the patrol and when I get back I get negative reknown for sinking them (they also showed up green on the map), unless it was for 12 dead crew men I suffered.

Someone on the BdU staff care to explain that for me..

Yup, American destroyers where hostile well before the war started. Even the US
battleships where deployed aggresiavly in the Atlantic.

Bdu are gonna be pissed off if you sank an American warship tho. They still wanna keep
America outta the war.

Well, if that's the way this war is going, then I'm off to find a quieter branch of the service..

my question is this... American Destroyers in SH3 prior to december 41 dont just arbitrarily attack you.

so...

what did you do to deserve this 'attention' from neutral warships?

in the preceeding 24 hours did you accidentally shell a neutral ship, or torpedo a neutral ship anywhere in the world? (even if you didnt sink it)

is it possible that you attacked or sank a ship when you were not 100% sure of its nationality and therfore there is even a slight astronomical chance that it could have been a neutral ship?

thats the only way such behavior would come across. its the only reason the neutral warships will ever attack you during a neutral period - is if you attacked a neutral first.

when you attack or sink a neutral ship, all of the neutrals will treat you as an enemy for 24 hours in SH3.

thats the game logic.

its also the only conceivable way these destroyers would have attacked you in SH3... you HAD to have attacked a neutral ship in the preceeding 24 hours... even if by accident.

America was all but in name at war with Germany by Sept41, stretching there neutral zone further out. I have and will continual to sink American warships from mid 41 before old Adolf states it for the record.

In SH3... It will only result in negative renown.
