Default Strange sub encountered: Whose it it?

Will try to post screenshot. It's been a long time and I have forgotten. (Only one picture of Dowly's tutorial is open for me)
Anyway, a couple hours out of Brest in September of '42. I get a message from my radio man that radar signals are detected. This is the source:

I wasn't sure whose it was or waht it was, so it beat feet and got out of there.
Any ideas?

Wow, never seen one of those. Good thing I got out of there. It was very close to the port of Brest. Pretty gutsy to be that close and have their radar "blaring" like that...

Thanks mates.

Hartmann,

Yes, Sir! That's the sub alright. Gato Class, eh? Did you ventilate that particular one with a fish?

Would I have been over-matched taking it on in a surface battle?

I use one torpedo because i can´t use my AA and deck gun in bad weather, but the american submarine can use it.
