Default Planes Used In Airstrikes??

I'm wondering how to do an airstrike and what kind of planes are called in to do the job? Thanks!

Depends on whether you are talking a Naval based airstrike or a Land based Airstrike.

For Naval based strikes, you'd need a mix of Dive Bombers and Torpedo bombers with some fighters as escorts.

For Land based strikes you'd be better off using Medium Bombers with a fighter escort.

Can you request air support to defend you from air attacks?

Don't think so, If you send a contact report near a convoy there is a chance of an airstrike on it but otherwise I don't think so

So you can select the unit types you wish to bring in for a strike?

Thanks allot for the info. I'm looking for ideas to throw into the next version of my "cheat" mod and I thought I'd take the airstrike craft and enhance them to kick butt. Looks like it's now possible to do.

Might be possible with the new request support units feature of 1.5. Lurker implemented different Luftwaffe reconaissance assets for Operation Monsoon that you can select and call in if within range. The aircraft only fly recon as far as I know, but maybe there is a way to cause them to strike also.

1)I knew he meant in game. 2)I was assuming he was trying to mod in airstrikes...therefore the answer on airstrike mixes.
