Default TMO evil airplanes are great!

Ducimus, more support for your version of reality from the fifth war patrol of Tang (O'Kane):
Quote:
18 - 19 October 1944:

Patrolled in Formosa Strait, encountering nothing but
patrol craft. We were greeted on surfacing by radar-
equipped planes who seemed to be assisted in their
search by the patrol which also possessed radar. As it
appeared to be more of a case of being hunted than
hunting, we moved northeast to our original lucky spot
off Pakusa Point, then on around the northern tip of
the island to patrol off the port of Kirun.
O'Kane, so dogged by evil aircraft that he had to leave the area! Evil aircraft with radar. Assisted by escorts with radar. In 1944. TMO proved right again!!!

And people around here complain about "too many aircraft." I don't think we have it half hard enough.

If it makes you feel any better, im changing their bomb loadouts.

They currently carry two types of ordinance. A bomb that detonates on contact, or at around 60 feet or so, and a air drop depth charge that detonates around 145 feet or so. They currently come with one, or the other.

Im changing it so they always have both (historically correct according to Tater). I meant to do this earlier, but decided to focus on other things instead.

I'll take some screenshots later when i have time. Heck, i even changed the airdrop depth charge model from looking like a bomb, to acutally looking like a depth charge.

Ducimus just giggles like a school girl when we get online and tell about our demise at the hands of his evil air force.:rotfl:

All joking aside they make the game so much more interesting.

With a BIG s**t eating grin i might add! :rotfl:

The thing is, they dont just bomb you, in essence, they basicaly "radio" your position. Any nearby ASW units or patrols will come to join the "party" if they're in range to do so.

Moral of story, children friends: use Admiral Fluckey's yo-yo strategy. Radar is your friend. Stay on the surface every second you can. Detect evil airplanes on radar. Be at 100' when they cross the 5 mile radius like from you. Stay there for five minutes. Come to radar depth. You'll see the evil airplane exiting, stage right or left. Surface and continue as before.

He never saw you. You are not on the menu. The party has been canceled.

I ain't scared of any of Lord Vader's, erm Ducimus, evil winged contraptions. Whaddya think they invented bug spray for? I'm still stuck on version 1.4 and TMO and sailing out of Dutch Harbour- no sign of planes and I don't remember the Japanese had any airfield on Kiska, so here I thumb my nose at Ducimus, Nah, nah, na-na-nah!

I wish I had that quote back when some folks were arguing that American fleet boats had it easy. "As the war went on it got easier for them. That's boring!":rotfl:

I personally don't use this strategy. It doesn't work for me. However, if it works for you RR...shut up about it! The last thing we need is Duci putting radar warning recievers on his aircraft. Then your next quote...

Perhaps in real life it did not apply. Reading Fluckey's patrol reports shows that he was much more judicious than I am in using his radar. The majority of planes were detected visually, implying that he recognized the potential hazards of radar overuse.

Duci would only put radar detectors on aircraft if they really had them. Just wait until they have radar! The quote above justifies it. Patch 1.5 makes it possible. Play the scary music!

Well, for one thing radar on aircraft didn't work as efficiently as we would like to think back in the '40s. It was a touch and go technology back then.

That's what keeps it exciting!

In Operation Monsoon U-Boat mission you are out on the Bay of Biscay with no radar of your own against Allied aircraft that have radar AND bomb you at or below periscope depth. Subs ain't for sissies (Penelope isn't a sissy). I'm attempting to slink back to Lorient with my tail between my legs right now. How can you get out so fast and it takes forever to get back?

And every allied aircraft in range has been called to the "crippled U-Boat limping back to Lorient" party. Casual dress. Bring your own depth charges...
