What i would really love...

...is for IL-2 and SH3/SH5 to be multiplayer compatable, i can just imagine diving on a destroyer to help the kaleun being depth charged or patrolling over water spotting a u-boat and attacking it as the Kaleun below crash dives or fights back.

It probably won't happen, but i can dream.

Nothing wrong with dreams.....I'd like to be in a surface escort (something along the lines of Destroyer Command)shepherding convoys and doling out a bit of revenge

Even better...could you imagine having a choice as to which side you take, above and below the surface

Is IL-2 any good? I play Microsofts Flight Sim X and I am scared the FSX realism has ruined me for other flight sims.

It is much better than good. IMHO it is excellent. I'm just not meant to be a flyer

I've played it some, and it is a very good combat flight sim. Very realistic (read: hard).
Apparently they showed it to pilots who actually flew fighters on the Eastern front and they said it had a very good look and feel to it, very much like the real thing.

I learned the hard way that I am not cut out to be a fighter pilot...I'm more at home on the conning tower of a submarine.

If you want to fly AND shoot / bomb / torpedo things in the WW2 stylee, it really can't be bettered. Only two problems with it, it bites into your time just like GWX does and it needs some money throwing after it PC-wise and control-wise (read HOTAS, TrackIR, pedals).

I've owned all versions right up to the last (1946) and never regretted the money spent. Give it a go (or wait until it's replacement SOW:BOB comes out but that'll be a while and a bit more pricey).

if you like FSX and looking for a good air combat sim IL-2 is for you, the graphics aren't as good and the sound seems very similar in all planes but the gamplay is huge and the flight dynamics feel like a real plane should.
personally i like both subs and flight simming they both have there own unique challenges, but i am mainly a flight sim guy.

I've been dreaming of something like this for a loooooong loooooong looooooooooooooooooong time. Maybe, when we have über PCs to calculate everything game like that would need we just might have one. And of course, merchants would be playable too. Kinda like IL2+SHseries+DC+Virtual sailor. Something for the subnuts, flyboys, surface chaps and casual sailors.

The first thing I'd do would be to take my 109, find Jimbuna's Type IX leaving the harbor. Climb waaaay up to the clouds and then dive down like a maniac, leveling off just on the side of the boat and tap Jim to head with my wingtip. :p
