Default My first real damage

Hello all. A real quick quick question about damage control. Is is automatic or do I have to assign to what should be repaired. I did suffer some damage but was repaired in no time. However when I went to the control room. One was at the ladder going up to the bridge and the other was near the far corner behind the helmsman and I could see water spraying. Oh. Had pressure hull in the upper corner of the damage screen and it said 8. I think I read somewhere you have to go to a base to get the pressure hull fixed. Is this correct? Thanks for any help.

Yes you need to return to base to fix the pressure hull. Some things just can't be repaired at sea. The spraying water is (i think) ment to be a visual reminder that you have pressure hull damage and, that you can't dive as deep as before.

As long as you have a decent crew assigned to the Damage Control team, they will create a priority list to work on as long as you have the DC enabled in the control bar (their team row will turn dark same as the on-duty crew.)

You can adjust the priority list if you think something is more important. The list affects the attention the DC crew places on items, but the compartment crews also perform repairs based on their own priority which you cannot change. Activating Battle stations puts more compartment crew on duty to perform repairs at the cost of higher detection levels by the enemy if you're being hunted. Inspect the damage level bars in the Damage Control screen. Bars which are 1.0 cannot be repaired. Silent Running causes repairs to be performed at a greatly reduced rate.

Yes, there are hints in the game (like the mouseover when you hover on the Silent Running button) to lead you to belive no repairs are done in SR. I have tested this not to be true. Given enough time, even major damage like bulkhead leaks get repaired if the crew are at BS and the DC is activated. I also see individual small items getting repaired slowly. If you have major damage it's not a good idea to stay at SR too long.

Of course most people know "silent" is not SILENT. People and machines continue to make a lot of noise no matter what. All silent running means in a submarine is people are doing everything possible to prevent un-necessary noise. SR with damage control means the crew has cloth wrapped around the wrenches and are not banging on stuff.
