Piece in the paper today that two scientists figured out by going through the ship builders archives it was from using substandard rivets thus the amount of damage. It took three million rivets to build the Titanic and they couldn't get hold of that many within the time constraints so.................... Sounds plausible to me.

This does bring up an important point. It would be much better of people entitled their threads so that the topic can be read from the title.
Really helps cut down on the duplication and makes it easier to scan the new threads
