Visitor at the USS Torsk

Today upon our arrival to the Torsk at 0700 much to our surprise and definitely out of place, we discovered our first visitor for the day:

Note the poor fella was catching the morning rays on the log that keeps the Torsk from banging up against the pier. This little fella known as a pitbull found himself here because if you fall in the water at the inner harbor, you do not get out unless you have hands. I'm sure this unsuspecting canine fell in and was paddling around for hours until he found refuge on the bump guard. We called the city animal control people who said they would be right out. I think they still have not showed as of the writing of this post

. Now, 25 feet behind this critter is the National Aquarium. A nice young lady at opening came out with a rope they use with the animals in the aquarium. She jumped down on the log like she had been doing this for years and cautiously approached our swimmer. After all, the media has made the pitbull the dog from hell with the teeth to match. Well, skippy here was more than happy to meet his saviour and was estatic to be helped to the pier. No fuss, no muss. Just happy as a clam in high tide. Well, maybe not as he just got over the high tide. Anyway, and much to my astonishment, the aquarium had a half bag of dog chow. Who the heck would think the aquarium with fish from all over the world would have dog chow? Jr. there ate to his hearts delight. Tail wagging the whole time. Super friendly and no doubt some ones pet at one time. There was a elderly women who worked at the aquarium who was mulling it over whether to take the dog on home or not. We had her lock, stock and barrel. She was ready. With that, Frank pops out on deck and bellows, "Watch that dog, he will lay your arm open if you let him." To which we told Frank to shut the heck up we are performing an adoption here.

The women said her sister has a dog with a nice big backyard so what is another dog? Of she went with Skippy wagging his tail all the way to Pratt St. So, the Torsk has rescued yet another lost soul on the high seas....well the bay anyway. Good luck Skippy.

The technical name for that piece of wood is a "fender".

Just thought I'd bring it up :-D

With all the warmth and good human nature to help a animal in distress and you are worried about a technical term for a device that prevents a ship/vessel from bumping the pier. Then again, looking at your odd ball sig it is not a wonder. Just thought I would tell you about your post. :-D
