Default Flags on subs

Hi all,I was wondering why no flags on submarines,is it because there would be no time to remove it before a crash dive?
Is this just in the game,or did this happen in real life??

Thank you.....

Yeha I think in rl they flew the flag sailing out of the harbour, you know with the band playing and all this.
What we seriously need is a pennant mod! Unless one is already out there?

edit: ok I see racerboy has some kind of pennant mod. I'll look more into it!

I remember seein' a mod made by racerboy I believe and he had done a flag and pennant mod ... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...t=flag+pennant

I know he has the flag mod as I have it installed and it looks fantastic so I know it's there somewhere ...

Yes, Racerboy did a flag and pennant mod, but only for the Type VIIB. Also, the pennants are what they are, so you have to edit them every time if you want them to reflect your actual score.

If nobody has posted a link by tonight I'll put it up on my FileFront page.

I won't steal Steves thunder but he is correct, there is a pennant and flag mod available for just one or two boats.

School of opinion out there is mixed...some believe it's unrealistic to have a flag hoisted mid patrol because that is not what happened in RL.

Also IIRC the pennants were originally viewable every time you raised the scope (that may not be the case now).

As always....the choice of mods used are down to each individuals preference.

Good Luck

I like to play the game in the most historical way as possible,I wasn't sure if subs from any nation flew a flag like on capital and merchant ships do.
I want to keep it as real as possible

Thanks again guys..

Flags flown in and out of harbors, yes. At sea, no, unless you were near friendly shores, in which case you wanted anyone who saw you to know you're friendly. On a surface warship you can't hide, so it was a long-standing tradition to announce your national orientation for all to see. In modern warfare ships were readily identifiable anyway, just from their shape. On a submarine the object was to dive anytime anything was spotted, and it was considered disrespectful to submerge with the flag flying, it was never flown at sea.

Anyway, here's the mod:
