Default Musical interlude.

Having picked up, what turned out to be one of my favourite albums of all time, at random a decade or so ago, I've done some searching for the artist in question and turned up some interesting news and new music which I thought I'd share with you all.

Basically this is 'electronic-classical' music of a more relaxed sort from a guy who calls himself 'Pentatonik' (as a solo project) the rest of the time he's a dj and sound engineer type.

The album I picked up on the off chance it was good was entitled: Pentatonik-Anthology. A double cd set with what turned out to be some fantastic music on it.
I've recently discovered several releases unknown to me which I will endeavour to get hold of despite the scarcity of records of this kind in regular music outlets.

The guys name is R. Simeon Bowring (aka pentatonik aka A1 people).
You can view his myspace page here be sure to listen to the media player content at the top right of the page; a collection of tunes from his latest production and a couple of real oldies too. (In Your Arms / By the Sword / A Thousand Paper Cranes / Aquamarine / The Rush of You / Petrushka)
Have a good read of the biography bit as it fills in some of the gaps since '91/'94 and 'Anthology'.

As part of his 3rd Pentatonik album 'The Five Angels' (2006) he collaborated with Kirsty Hawkshaw on a couple of tracks:
'Last One and the First' and 'Love is a Rose'

You can see a live version of 'Love is a Rose' filmed at the social as a youtube link on Simeons myspace page.

There is also another live recording from the Foundry where Simeon and Kirsty perform 'Love is a Rose' and 'Last One and the First'

The quality of the sound isn't fantastic, but good enough to appreciate imo.

You can also check out the album version of 'Last One and the First' at Simeons last record lables myspace page: Hydrogen Dukebox Records check out the media player in the top right hand of the page. There's also a couple of other good tracks here by other artists signed to that label - see Metamatics version of an old Depechemode song: 'Personal Jesus' quite different and so much better than that peice of crap from marylin manson a ways back (think it was him anyway). And there's a few other good bits of music there too.

I always wanted to be a full-time musician, but I never had the opportunity to make it happen for real; the needs of putting a roof overhead and paying increasingly high local gov. taxes and the cost of living precluded me from having the time I wished to spend on the other great love of my life.
Music in all its diverse forms is a very powerful influence on my life: some melodies and themes quite easily move me to tears or lift me out of myself in such a unique way that I find it hard to articulate.
No matter how long I live, I don't think I will ever get to appreciate even a fraction of all the really great music out there; from oldtime jazz to metal, r&b and classical, all the way to more modern exponents of the craft (as linked above).

Were I to loose everything in my life but the ability to hear, I could carry on. To loose that ability would crush out the soul and make the world forever an empty place.

I hope some of you appreciate some of these tunes as much as I do.

Ta,
jumpy (in a more introspective mood today)
