There certainly has been at least one VC awarded for that, in Hong Kong, but it was posthumous. Sadly, although the level of bravery is not one whit less, I suspect the staffazoids and bureaucrats will somehow count his survival against it.

This is by no means limited to any one country. I was surfing a US site on Medals of Honour citations. It got damned depressing - every other one from Vietnam was, "...threw himself on grenade... posthumous'. Yike!

This man is a credit to the Royal Marines and I sincerely hope he is awarded the VC. If the award was up for public poll as to the winner he would get my vote.
