Just an FYI Socket T 775 Intel, will be replaced by the newer Socket H LGA 715 in the 2nd quarter 08, so upgrading, even with the new processor out for the x48 chipset (1600FSB) it will be old technology soon and none upgradeable.

Not that you wanted it. Sometimes I find that to be an excellent time to upgrade. The prices drop like a rock (sometimes) and the software developers wait a while for enough people to get the new technology before they jump in and use it. So depending on what the prices do and what a person uses the computer for, it might be let's make a deal.
I build my own so I can pick and choose parts. I paid $120 for 1GB of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz and now you can get 2GB for $28 because of the DDR3 coming out. I agree that you should buy the newest technology, if you can afford it but sometimes people can get what they need for a lot less money if they buy the 'old' stuff.

Well I just learned a lesson today, dont trust anyone to do anything on your computer. My PS fried and destroy my mobo and a few things, I replaced the parts but it corrupted xp so I needed to reformat the drive. I had a good friend over and asked him to just delete my raid 1 and reformat it and install xp on the same drives again while I went to pick up a package. Well when I came back he accidently formated my backup. Windows specifically says "STORAGE DRIVE" when you are getting ready to pick which drive to format and install windows on, heck we went to the same school I figure this was a no brainer, apparently I was wrong.

Well I lost all my pics 10000+,all my music, all ROW my ROW, deckgun mod, paid for software downloads everything, etc x100, 100 gigs worth of stuff.

Theres only one weakness in my computer knowledge, recovery! Anybody have any ideas what program I could use? I had a recovery program I paid for but that went bye bye also. Any help would be appreciated.

The following statements are not directed towards anyone in particular. Just my own .02 and worth exactly that depending on your own perspective, lol.

Almost since the very beginning of home pc hardware in the 80's, ALL hardware has pretty much shared the same fate . . .

It is all soon to be old technology and non-upgradeable. What else is new?

My new machine will be completed by the middle of next week and I don't regret for a single second not waiting until the next "latest and greatest" hardware comes out. There always has been and always will be something new just around the corner.

I'm certain that my rig will tide me over just fine until it is necessary to put aside another 2.5 grand (give or take) to build my next "dream machine" in another year or two.

Drop well over $10k (usd) on a new triple sli setup with the latest and greatest processor, Mobo, RAM, GPU's, etc., 6 months from now to some boutique computer company halfway across the continental U.S.? Not me, a fool and his money are soon parted.

You can ride the leading edge of pc technology for an extremely high price (especially if you don't build your own rigs), or you can spend your money wisely, put together a machine that can handle any entertainment software out there with ease, and all for well less than half the cash.

IF, you can exercise a little patience, and don't feel a need to have "bragging rights".

Nope, I'm not going to put any current system specs in my sig (hell I don't even have a sig, rofl!). Let's just say I'm absolutely certain that I'll be able to run Crysis (the latest and greatest "hardware hog") and it will have silky smooth framerates while looking gorgeous. Is my rig gonna be as good as your rig?

I don't care!!! I promise you it is/will be MORE THAN good enough.

I dont care much for OC, as long as it is smooth im happy. If I really cared what I had id invest in the latest and waste 10k which I dont have.

Wasn't critisizing Torps, just a comment because I have seen so many 'kids' go out and buy a $2000++ machine to read their email, just because it's the newest and I need it.

I wish I had an answer for your delete problem!!! I feel the pain, I lost more photos than that, family shots and I do nature photography. Luckly I have a son in law that doesn't 'lose his cool' and he uses my old computer when he is over and commented that 90% of the photos were still on the old computer, I never deleted them when I built the new one, plus what I had backed up on DVDs and he had most of the same family shots so I got lucky. Good luck with the recovery. I tried a few recovery programs but they didn't work. Somehow the files all got corrupted, I could see the icon, I could see the filename but nothing would open them. One recovery program was recovering the top half of the photo, but only on a few and very few.

If I find any answers I will certainly pass it along. I know there are companies that do that stuff but I heard they are very expensive. I will do a little research, but I am kinda in the dark on recovery too, they promise it will recover everything and don't do squat.

Again good luck with the recovery effort. I hope he only did a format and didn't install Windows! I understand writing to the drive is even worse than a delete or format.

I noticed we have the same motherboard, question: you have 4GB, is that two 2GB or 4 1GB. I have read in some forums that if you populate all four slots on this board it bumps the FSB back to 667 instead of 800. Just wondering if that was true. They claim the Northbridge won't handle it. Was eyeballing the 2x1GB for $28 and was wondering if i would just end up slowing the machine down. Right now I have 2x!gb in it and 2x512 sitting in the drawer. I think my major problem right now is the Video card as far as SH4. I may buy the RAM just for backup for when it gets scarce.

I think the only thing we can absolutely count on is that no matter when we upgrade, we'll be obsolete inside of 2-3 years. Pesonally, I tend to buy AMD cuz they're a little cheaper. I'm hoping I can squeeze one more year out of my rig.

I'm not playing too many new games, but there's lots of 2-3 year old stuff in the bargain bins that my system qualifies as maxed-out for. I picked up Falcon 4 AF about a month ago and I can see myself investing months in that title alone.
