Default Sound problem with GWX or maybe SHIII in general

I have a tendancy to randomly get nothing but really loud static in place of sound sometimes, its not nessisarly a certain sound, infact it could be any of them. Also, it seems to pop up randomly and not during any one event. It can last for upwards of a minute, or even five in which I have to take the headset off and wait for it to subside. Anyone else have a similar problem or even a solution?

Is it just Silent Hunter that you're getting this problem with or are there also other games that do this as well?

Just SHIII it seems. Also, just noted that while the static is going that applies to other sounds as well, the aim incomoing im sound is painful

You're not running AIM in the background are you?

If it's just doing that on its own it's starting to sound like a sound card issue to me...

Try updating your sound card drivers. You may have a messed up driver there or a driver that somehow got messed up. If they are the latest drivers, roll back to the old ones, then update again. If it still does it, roll back the drivers and try it out then and see if it's still doing it.

Try running SHIII without AIM running in the background. Completely shut off AIM. It could be the AIM sounds that are being triggered when someone on your friends list logs on or off, or is calling you for voice chat.

Also check your soundcard's hardware acceleration settings. For some games you will need to drop it down a notch or two or even turn it off completely. Direct X was fairly sloppy in its coding for Direct Sound and how it interacts with hardware acceleration.

Aside from that, the next most likely source of your trouble is a conflict between your sound card and another piece of hardware, usually the video card. Updating or rolling back your drivers for the sound card, video card, and even your motherboard may fix the trouble but you may need to relocate the sound card to a different slot as it may be sharing some of the same system resources as the video card in its current position.

Slot #4 is usually the best place for the sound card as it shares few, if any, resources with other hardware critical to gaming.
