Default About the lightning...

I'm sure this is adressed in one of these environmental/PE effects threads somewhere, but I haven't found it.

What is the deal with the lightning?

I have yet to see any lightning, ever, at any time. I see the lightning images/files in the PE mod, and I know Dave had some screens of it, but he pulled a trick to make it work for him.

Is it broken? Does it actually appear ingame? Is it another ATI vs Nvidia issue?

I have lots of Thunder, but no lightning. Not in vanilla or any mods.

Can someone 'enlighten' me?

How do you suppose that happens?

does this mean its just a missing heavy weather
setting in the campaign layers.

what I mean is

when you set mild wether or medium weather in the campaign
then according to the implication of what you said, such settings
preclude lightning even when weather changes to stormy later
after the preset hours for weather change but the starting
point seems to rule or thats the impression.

has anybody tried setting the weather to start horrible in the campaign
layers to see if this rememdies it????????? after all weather change
will still happen but this may enable the lightning in campaign.

(I admit I dont know but I got facinated by the question for a minute
there)

Dave worked very hard to get lightning to appear in Campaign Mode. He succeeded briefly, but the result was a bit wonky, so he dropped it. It was a pet peeve of his until the end.

Roger. Thanks.

I do seem to recall Dave saying that now. Sort of weird for this circumstance to exist. You wouldn't think that the trigger for lightning would be something affected by whether or not it's a single mission or campaign.

I remember seeing that playing one game and thinking it looked like a shot from one of those bad SciFi channel movies.

Yeah...this was an almost consistent finding whenever I returned from patrol to Pearl Harbor, just outside the docks. Poor Dave, bless his soul, was frustrated by this. He pledged the devs to solve this problem, but it seems they didn't.
