Default Midway quick mission

I'm new to the game and like it so far, but I've run into a question/problem.

I've done the "school" lessons in order to get my feet wet (sorry about the pun) and now am going through the quick missions in order to get some further experience.

Well, the first one, at Midway, is giving me some problems. My orders are to engage the Japanese. I've run the mission and done that over and over. I've spent all my ammo, sunk who knows how many cruisers, destroyers and fleet carriers and the mission always says "Incomplete". I've tried sailing away and sticking around dodging the sub-chasers. I just can't get this to complete.

So, veterans, what's the key?

You need to sink 45 thousand tons, which means you should probably try to bag the Carriers and/or Battleships

Whenever you play the single missions, ignore the small stuff unless they are specifically mentioned. Good lesson for the campaign as well.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys,

It wasn't easy, but I was able to complete the mission by bagging some big ships while dodging a half dozen destroyers. Pesky devils!

How did you do it? I ALWAYS sink one, but by the time my torpedo tubes are reloaded there's no way I can get back within their limiting lines of approach without surfacing and exposing myself to gunfire and aircraft.

You might want to consider sending 3 fish into two large targets to slow them down and get them burning/listing. That should buy you some time to swing the stern around and maybe finish them off.
