Default When do Japanese get radar detectors?

Of course I am curious as to what point in the war I should become much more circumspect about using my radar because the Japanese finally end up getting radar detectors. In mid '43 now (latest TM build).

For aircraft the Japanese had

M-13 in June 45
FH-1 In February 45

Ship-borne the Japanese had

E-27 in April 44 (although prototypes may have been used earlier.

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...arfare_Systems) has references to

Type 2 Mark 3 Model 1 Anti-Surface Fire-Control Radar ("31-Go" Anti-Surface Fire-Control Radar)
Type 2 Mark 3 Model 2 Anti-Surface Fire-Control Radar ("32-Go" Anti-Surface Fire-Control Radar)
Type 2 Mark 3 Model 3 Anti-Surface Fire-Control Radar ("33-Go" Anti-Surface Fire-Control Radar)

But I am not sure they were radar detectors (sure do sound like it though)

An interesting question. It seems that it was late in the way in any case.

Fire control radar was for directing fire at another ship with large caliber guns, like 11", 16", etc. The Japanses put a lot of emphasis in fire control and considered surface radar for detecting over the horizon contacts of limited value. Early in the war they had several surface victories (especially at night) because they had more advanced fire directors than the US did.

They also had far better torpedoes and torpedo tactics than the US did. The Savo Island night battle debacle was a real eye-opener. Luckily, the Japanese cruiser fleet didn't follow-up with an attack on the transports. The Guadalcanal campaign nearly ended right there.

In another forum I had the same question, so here's the answer I gave:

You may find the answer here.
http://www.fischer-tropsch.org/prima...USNTMJ_toc.htm

There's a wealth of info there!
Have fun reading it

What I have found sofar; it seems to me that the Japanese Radar emission detection was mediocre at best. I think what most US skippers did, was project their own knowledge about radar on the enemy. Thus giving the enemy more credit than what they really deserved.

In other books you find the same thinking pattern (I think Silent Running, and Thunder Below have some remarks about it).

Problem is that you cannot put a thing like this in the game. The US skippers were convinced that the Japanese could pick up their radar, whereas in reality it (IMO) most of the time (have to be careful here..) wasn't there. Now, if that's true, you cannot put this in a game.

Now that's the reality. What the Devs put in the game to 'simulate' this...

groetjes

The type H-6 is the only really relevent airborne radar set. 2000 built.

http://www.combinedfleet.com/radar.htm

Even though these could be deployed by late 1942, they were only widely installed by 1944. The Japanese did have an involved history with Radar and American sets were not the mover and shaker of Japanese thinking. There was even a fair amount of collusion with the German development.

H8K's should be the only real prime benefactor in SH4. In ASW, the Type H-6 appears as early as late 42' but on limited numbers of H8K, as the war progresses more aircraft are invested with this technology. This reflects the reality on the ground to a good level in SH4. RFB will soon have a very accurate account of this aspect of the war.
