Just barely warm, light winds. 77-80 degrees F, sunny. We went down to the marina today, was spot on weather.

And he calls that "just barely warm'! A couple of days ago we had a high of 58, and were singing about it. I would love to see 80 degrees right now.
Of course I would also love to see 80 degrees when it's late summer and 105!:rotfl:

I used to live in Houston and also spent many years in southeast Texas. Temperatures in the 90s for late April are pretty common. Summers are hell with temps of 98+ and 100% humidity, but it cools off to around the low 80s at night. Back then it was just an overgrown cow-town with just under two million in population. Greenspoint Mall used to be right on the edge of town. Past it was nothing but farms, woods, and the Goodyear blimp hangar. Now it's surrounded by dense urban jungle and high-rise office buildings.
San Antonio summers are even worse. It feels like opening the door on a hot oven when you step outside, a physical slap in the face. I miss my homeland, but I'm more than happy to put up with the snow and chilly climate here since I'm a polar bear at heart.

I lived here on the NW side while attending Francone Elementary just to the East on Windfern and Campbell Junior High across the street. We lived in the apartment complex just SE of the intersection and in the building SW of the pool. I'll never forget the look on the faces of the residents when we moved in April and jumped in the pool! :rotfl::rotfl:
Right away, they new we were yankees. Back then, the same thing applied regarding the expanse of suburbia...there was basically nothing between FM 1960 and Tomball, and Sam Houston Tollway wasn't even thought about yet. |

LOLOL
I remember Houston when anything west of Gessner was out in the boonies, Sugar Land was a half day's drive, and 610 wasn't even thought about yet...much less the Sam Houston. Anyone remember Colt 45 Stadium? :hmm: |

Well, well look at all of these Houston boys all in one thread ... I didn't know we had so many.
I moved to Houston from Waco, Texas in 1959 and there was no 610 loop yet ... just old Post Oak Road, no Galleria shopping center yet either. I think Hwy 59 was just being built then too, because I remember getting stopped for speeding over on Richmond Rd and the policeman said, "You boys should take your drag racing on over to that new Highway 59". I lived behind the Catholic high school I think it was called Marion near Bellaire. I attended Bellaire high school till my family moved and then I finished up at Lamar Highschool. Served nine years in the Navy and came right back home to Houston in 1971, worked for Southwest Security installing security alarms and trouble shooting problems with the quick stop stores in Houston that got robbed everyday. Then I lucked out got a job down in Seabrook next to the Kema drawbridge at Southwest Marine (the big green building at the entrance to the Seabrook Shipyard. Worked there for four years and then I left for sunny California in 1977, but I came back three years later and got a job at Astro World as a photographer and then I lucked out again and got a great job at Four Seasons on the Gulf down in Galveston. Moved back to sunny California in 1982 ... I will always remember my roots. Love everything there except the humidity ... I worked outside for years there and I would need another shower by noon everyday. Hope I can get back for the subsim meeting and stand the smells of fresh gasoline being made down in Pasadena, Deer Park, Channel view area. Which only bothers you if you have to live or drive through those areas. Pearland was nice when I left that is ... Hope to see ya'll there ![]()

It's been about ten years since I last passed through Houston. The stink of the refineries and chemical plants around Baytown had certainly gotten worse. The soup that passes for air in the Houston area has definitely gotten thicker over the years.
I remember the farms near Aldine, where I spent some of my youth, and how relatively fresh the air was. Some of my most cherished childhood memories reside there. I remember how huge the Galleria mall was to my eyes and looking down on the ice skating rink from the upper floors was a wonder. My oldest sister took the rest of us kids to the cinema there to see "Jaws" when it premiered. I was scared out of my mind when my brother then took us all to Galveston Island the next weekend! ![]() nikimcbee, I live in the Spokane, Washington area now. I moved up here so the wife could be close to her family but I ended up liking it here despite that. :p
