Naval acadamy~torpedos~Manual targeting help.

I am having problems with manual targeting and hitting anything. I follow the instructions posted before the mission to the letter. Here is a common scenerio describing my issue. Load mission, Head due east (This brings me close to the tanker that is on a course south) after about 30 seconds flank speed I order all stop. I pop my periscope up (Attack) and start my calculations
1.ship type (Small tanker) Check
2.Ship distance (Using the meter built in/Mast height) 800m's
3.Angle off bow (at first I was calculating off my bow but now I understand that its my angle off of his bow) 35 degrees and climbing.
4.speed (timed 20 seconds) 7 kts.

With periscope locked I fire so close I could hit it with a water balloon but the torpedo always aims behind the vessal and doesnt come close

Okay try again this time he's closer recheck calculations
1. check
2. 500 m's
3.90 degrees He's right in front of me!
4.speed 7 kts

Fire 2! Again way behind him what am I doing wrong?

I did a forum search but found no aswer

This is just a guess, but you have to hit the ok button on the notepad to send the information to the tdc. Personaly id recomend you get the OLC ui mod for manual targeting, its at least functional.
If by chanse you are allready using olc ui files then you have to pop the tdc panel back down before firing so it would update the targets bearing.

Ofcourse there is the possibility that you areu nderestimating his speed, but at those ranges that shouldnt factor in too much.

Doubt this is it but could be caused by getting port and stb mixed up in the AOB notepad

Okay I found that doing all the above and then unlocking my scope and rotating it 3 ship lengths ahead gets results but this is not how it is supposed to be done.!?
Its like the torpedo goes exactly where the ship was when fired and does not take into account where its going. IE I input all the data (Yes I hit the check mark after every phase) and in the end the torped just goes exactly the angle my scope is looking at when fired (If my scope is at 340 looking at the ship the torp goes 340 and stays on 340 but the ship has moved to 350 by the time it gets there.

Obviously something is wrong so Im doing a complete uninstall / reinstall proccess

What does the gyro angle say when you fire?

Again if you are looking at 340 and then hit the check mark to input the data - what does the gyro say? Like you say, the ship is at 350 once the torp is out there so the gyro angle should read 350

Exactly the only way to change the gyro angle is to move the periscope to where the ship is going to be (Example) Im locked on ship it is at 350 so i unclock and pan to angle 15 then fire. But thats the same as if I did no calibrations and fired blind.
Ive concluded the game's install is fubar and just redoing it.

Sounds like the data hasnt reached the TDC, its not that you have to hit the check mark after each step, but you have to hit the check mark on the notepad after having entered the range, speed and aob. After having found all 3 of those you need to hit the check mark on the notepad to send the data to the tdc.
Though i could be wrong here, going by memory and my memory is a bit worse than i remembered

Not only that, but you could put the data into the Vorhaltrechner yourself by either hitting F6 and entering it there, or if you really want that double juiced-in U-boat flavor, click on the weapons officer and enter it yourself on the Vht.

Oh, and get yourself a Kriegsmarine whiz-wheel. Here's the thread where you can get the files to make one:

Forgive me if you already know this but I feel it is always worth repeating for others who may have the same issue.

In addition to the excellent advice about hitting the "check" mark, are you opening your torpedo bow doors (Q) prior to firing?

I know that I didn't when I first started playing. They did not call me Sub Lieut. SteepLearningCurve for nutton.

If you hit fire without having previously opened the torpedo door, your crew will do so automatically but this will delay the actual launching of your torpedo by a few seconds. This will cause your torpedo to miss behind your target

Platapus you , that was what I was about to suggest.

There is also the possibility that you haven't dealt with the stock error where you need to set the speed of the torpedo again since even though it might say 45 it might in fact still be at the default 30.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask for more help.

7 kts?

Check five minutes later!

This tanker is still accelerating.
