Default Question to ps3 owners...

Ok i know id be better off asking this on a ps3 forum, but folks on console forums are mostly foul mouthed 14yr olds who would call me a fag just for being British

Anyway i was wondering is it possible to hook up my ps3 to my pc monitor??

Ive looked through the manual and i cant seem to spot anything about this, although i didnt really look that hard to be honest.

I have my 360 (and my pc) hooked up to a 42 inch lcd monitor (which is conciderably cheaper than a 42inch hdtv!) Currently my ps3 is connected to my lame old 21inch telly running at 640x480 (PAL) is there anything like microsoft`s HD VGA cable for a ps3??

I want to play at 1080p dammit!!

ooh i should add the monitor has only 2 VGA ports and a couple of those digital (wierd looking) ports that nobody seems to use, it doesnt have HDMI or even scart/component.

LOL.

FM you need to check whether your monitor supports HDCP. The manufacturers website will tell you if you can find the model details. Don't assume it does as most manufactures don't expect someone to plug a HDCP reliant source into it. That's if you want true HD, i.e HDMI to DVI input.

If your monitor supports HDCP, you'll need a converter, like this - http://hdfury.net/

You can however use a standard VGA input but you're not going to get much better results than your current TV.

EDIT - Tell you what, look at getting a 720p compliant LCD, as there are very few games that support full 1080p available at the moment. More will come but until then even a TV that supports 1080i will serve your purposes when viewing images, browsing etc in the XMB, whereas the games will default to 720p when started. P.S the devs don't tell you this though.

P.S If you want, add me to your friends list. Strangely enough my PSN name is danlisa.

Danlisa: Err.. VGA inputs support upto and above 1080p, i currently have my 360 hooked up through a HD VGA connection at 1080p and it looks lovely, at least it did before the i spilled coffee on my console and killed it, the ps3 was stood vertical and escaped most of the spillage unharmed.

That's true but....Errr not on the PS3.:rotfl:You will not get a 1080p output using VGA on the PS3.

Like I said, the only way you'll get that rez is by having a HDCP compliant monitor/tv and by using a HDMI to DVI converter.

Which BTW, is why there were a few vocal people complaining about the PS3 not being bundled with a HDMI cable.

Ahh thanks for the clarification, i really should read the manual, Im useless with stuff like this, it took me 10yrs to figure how to program my old vhs video, by which time it was obsolete
