Default Tangling with escorts

I always desist from taking on escort destroyers for obvious reasons. But last night I got mad and tired of hours of running deep and silent. Maybe it's the Combat Flight Simmer in me and throwing away the Golden Rule of being patient I surfaced at flank speed, set my torps, opened tube doors and LET'S GET IT ON! Four of them, they were actually 3 Subchasers and 1 DD. I was surrounded! So sent 2 fore torps and 2 aft torps on a Subchaser (fore) and DD (aft). Those IJN guys must've been shocked senseless. They tried to accelerate and double whammo! they went down. Adrenaline pumping (I had realistic reload on) and it took forever to reload. Then I remember to activate battle stations and that speeded up the reloading a bit. Confusion ruled! One escort depth-charged me and missed but another one came too close and got hit with a DC! Ha! The last one dead on 0 in my scope. You gonna git it! Whammo! the escort split n two! All this wunderbar action at Flank Speed! I celebrated by opening a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. But don't tell the wife. She'll kill me.:rotfl:

Btw I was sailing with a S-42- The Super Sugarboat!

LOL, DaveyJones. I'm sure we've all felt like doing that at some time, but have never been dumb enough to actually try it!

With that kind of luck, maybe it's time to head to the gas station and pickup a powerball ticket today.

Congratulations, skipper!

Yesterday evening I was playing as the germans with the add-on and I was trying to hunt down a enemy task force.
After 1 and a half hour with intense action I got away being almost sunk and with hull damage of 30%.

I just had to open a bottle of Unicum (hungarian spirit) that I bought on my recent holiday in Hungary!

Why do I never get tired of this game?

Cheers!

PS! I won't tell your wife

For $100 I won't tell your wife. I have done that before and it is definately a rush. I find the biggest problem is they usually head straight at you, hard to hit like that. Couple days ago I had 4 escorts on 1 merchant. Actually it was one of the liners they use for toops. I took out the lead escort because I was undetected and then the liner turned to go away and I turned toward and had a perfect broadside shot. The idiot escort from the far side came speeding toward me and ran right into one of the torps. This is my lucky day. Got #3 then the last one stayed back a bit hoping I would waste all my torps, because he was just far enough away that he could get out of the way when he saw them coming.
This brings up a question maybe you can answer. I was almost lined up for a shot one time and an escort came from the side and rammed me and destroyed my scope. Learned to pay attention to my surroundings that day. But I found I could track him as he turned for another pass, and I spaced some shots from the bow and got lucky and one took him out. But when I tried this from the aft tubes, it tells me it can't get a firing sloution for the stern tubes and they won't fire, but the forward tubes will. Any idea why?

The torpedoes can only be set to turn 135 degrees, I think that's right. If the torpedo would have to turn tighter than that, there's no solution. The initial run out angle comes into play with this also, as it has to run out a few hundred feet before making the turn.

If a DD is heading straight for me I let him pass and when he goes aft wait till he slows down for the turn around and hit him with the aft torps. That's their weakness. I always go Ahead Flank when attacking fast warships that are close enough so you can turn inside him faster. I won't try this with an S-boat due to the lack of aft tubes. Oh, when attacking convoys the first ship to hit is your primary target, warships are secondary in my book- unless it's the Yamato The Tomato.

Someone else comes up with the Up the Poop Chute shot! Awesome! It really does work well if you avoid his drop because they always seem to slow down and hesitate before they come around for another attack. They're checking to see if you're dead. "Yeah, I'm dead. Here, check this out..." boom.

I made an error. I was sailing a Porpoise-class sub not an S-42. That's what happens when you have multiple copies of SH4. Damn, Scotch Whisky and coconutwater sure tastes great! I'm not a big drinker but the wife found out and I told her Mr. Peabody made me do it. I got off the hook!

Default Really....

Well, since it wasn't an S class, I guess I'm no longer impressed.:rotfl:

Gmail is chomping on TMO without much success. I'll probably have to wait until I get home to get you the file. I'll let gmail continue to chew for awhile.

Now I suppose I'm the one in trouble? And I won't get my $100 either?
