Default Ship ID book question

So I was running through the training missions the other night, again, got to the convoy mission, and had a modern tanker dead in the water being protected by 2 destroyers and I only like 4 torps left. To this point I had no confirmed sinkings. I needed 10,000 tons to complete the exercise. I wasn't sure if that tanker would meet the goal so I went to the ingame ship id book, and found that it only contained warships. Was I doing something wrong??

I did wind up sinking that tanker and it did complete the mission for me though.
Thanks!

Major Johnson,

On the cover of the recoginition manual there are a couple of triangles on either side of the Group title. By clicking on either one of the triangles you will change what recognition manual you can look at (i.e. US Warships, British Warships, Merchant Ships, etc). By clicking on the right triangle it should take you to the merchants from the Japanese Warships.

Hope this helps

More target map Qs

Hitting ships, esp flat tops in TFs, is still a crap shoot for me! I get the white X on or even behind the target, but the torp line is far away from the ship. I move it (using the spread torp dial) near the target, but I still miss. Someone wrote that you need to "lead the target" in a manner similar to hitting w/ a gun. Using a spread shot increases the chances of hitting. How do I get the torp green line on the target map to start off by being closer to the target? Is using the green line the easiest and most accurate way to ensure I hit a target? Playing w/ stock 1.4 and manual setting.

TIA

Lee
