Default Question about the brig

I don't mean the one here at subsim.:p I mean in a real ww2 sub, when a sailor got out of line or maybe just melted down, was there a designated place assigned for them or were they just closely guarded? I checked the search engine and looked a little online but didn't turn up much of anything.

BTW, I heard the subsim brig has rats as big as racoons with red eyes and a big white belly!:rotfl:

No such thing as a real, physical brig on a sub. Just no room for one. In an absolutely worst case scenario, where some crew member went pure phsyco I'd image they'd just lash him up real tight and stuff him in a rack until they made port again.

The brig is filled with big, stinky Bilge Rats! Oh. yeah!

Whenever one of my crew gets shaken up due to an attack I make note of his name and transfer his sorry butt to the looney bin ward at base and I replace him. Reason? I don't want him freaking out next time we get in a sticky situation. Yes, I really do that. The only thing close to a brig in the game is when Command sends you to a boring desk job or in my opinion as a training officer. I'd rather face the enemy than teach a bunch of hairy Bilge Rats.

Oh I imagine if someone went loopy they would be dismissed as soon as they RTB, I was just wondering how real life skippers handled the situation at sea.

I suppose a form is filled out back at base. Then the straight jacket and the nice men in white. Seriously I'm not sure how they handled it. In the movie 'Das Boot' when the engineer went fruity after the DC attack the Captain went for his luger. This kind of behavior from the engineer is vey dangerous for a crew. It's very infectious as Fear always is. It's harsh but it's best for crew morale to remove the broken man.
